Alternative to a restrictor in the oil supply line

It is time to plumb the oil line on my turbo and i don't like the idea of putting a restrictor on the supply line for the turbo. It seems like no matter what size orifice you use it is always a compromise, too small and your pressure is safe at low speeds but too low at higher speeds, too big and the pressure is too high at lower speeds but fine at higher speeds. We recently built a jet engine out of a turbo and you would be amazed with the difference that oil pressure makes on how a turbo spools. We varied the voltage to the pump that supplied oil to the turbo and with lower pressures (well within the safe limit) the turbo would spool up MUCH faster and would turn more RPM. My idea is instead of a restrictor i plan on using a return style regulator. I have made a prototype and when i get the car tuned i will try it with and without the regulator to see if there is any difference in performance. What do you guys think?
