Air Pump Fitment

Since I live in Houston which has had emissions testing for over 10 years, I have to worry about it. I will not go pay someone to pass it; use to do that with my 83 and it became too much of a hassel to find some one to do it as the testing progressed from litmus/visual to dyno.

Currently with non-seq, all I have to do is put my hi-flow cat on when the time comes.

I want to go single turbo but it looks like the HKS kit is the only one.

Now from the pictures of the A-SPEC kit with the GT35R and it's short straight out manifold, it looks like this kit my allow the stock air pump. Has anyone tried it?

Or what other kits will allow the mechanical pump?

Otherwise, I will have to go electric pump which can't run constantly like the stock one does up till 3000rpm.

I would ask Sean, but if I recall, he stated that you can't use the airpump with the A-Spec kits. It looks like it could fit, if not you could always make a custom manifold and dp. As far as kits that allow the use of the stock airpump most if not all the HKS kits do, and the newer A'PEXi kits allow you to keep the airpump.
I believe Wargasm used a electric airpump from a Vette or F-body to pass emissions with his XS-Engineering T04S kit, so you may want to ask him as well.
Welcome to the darkside!

That is exactly what I need, a manualy with all RX-7 mods listed, parts required, and how to do it. I would buy that one also! Knowledge is power.

Our kits can utilize the airpump, they also work with M2 intake and M2 /ASP IC please let me know if you have any questions.

Was it in accident that the airpump works with it or did you actually try to do that so more people could be in the market for it?

It was not a accident, I put the turbo in the best possible place I could find for all solutions, I just hadn't gotten around to making the other stuff to go with it ie brackets and such. So I don't market it much. I wanted a kit that you would be able to use the existing common twin upgrades ie. M2/ASP IC and intake and the other biggest complaint was airpump requirements.

Mine from another post:
The installation of my GT35R kit from A-SPEC is almost completed.

Mine is being done with the air pump remaning in place and functional. It will pump air back to either my MP or cat (when it is there for emmissions testing).

I am waiting for my FMIC inlet neck to be rotated/moddfied as the turbo to IC pipe affects the final air pump adjustment which in turn affects my final air filter setup.

I asked A-Spec about this last spring and they weren't sure... looks like it'll definately fit, but you'll have to get creative to get a filter onto it.

You have to get creative to do the whole thing from air pump outlet pipe being changed to new air pump lower bracket to air filter.

I was sure it would fit just not sure if I wanted to sell it on that merit. Most of the people who buy the kits aren't wanting to rework the outlet on the pump and fab the bracket so I prefer to not sell the kit on that feature. It's not a lot of work, but you would be suprised how many calls we field on why the turbo doesn't fit only to have to tell them they need to clock the turbine and comp cover.

If you go with the Aspec GT35R kit, here's your solution:

Crispy,

Twice over the years when the site had problems, my post count was erased.
Now I am nearing 2500 again.

How is your GT35R tuning going? My ignition amp went out and I replaced it with a TwinPower. Currently I am replacing my 1200cc injectors with 1600cc.
I hope to be through tuning this fall.

Chuck

Chuck,
Running fairly well. Had some issues with wastegate hardware failing/working loose while at the track and subsequently blowing out the gaskets but I think I have that licked. Turbo is blowing by some oil but otherwise things are ok. I need to do some more tuning now that the hardware issues have been addressed. I'm still way down in the 10.5 and lower AFR range under boost. This of course is driving my injector duty cycles way way up and limiting me to 14psi tops. But that can be fixed

Yes I did and it's very well put together, as matter of fact my situation is just like your debating on turbos 99 or Single? Anyway what make more fun I just got my asswhip saturday nite by a youn ***** in a c5 vett with mods that leave me 4 car behind, and 3 weeks and mitsu eve kick my *** but I caught him very fast unlike the vett. Also the main reason too, is that nobody has FDS turbos parts laying around to rebuild them from ground up. What do u guys think Gotham single? Khris
