Air filters for big singles. post pics.
I have a T-76 single on my car and it currently has piping leading to a K&N conic filter.
I have seen on some of your single set upsyou use some flat sponge filter (i think its a HKS or Greddy).
where can you get these how much do they cost and do they outflow the K&N filters.
I need a thin profile so it can mount directly on the turbo inlet and not hit my radator.
and can you post pictures of your single filters on it.
thanks.

The foam filters that you get from HKS and Greddy don't do a very good job of trapping dust and dirt. In fact, they let a lot of crap get by. They might outflow the K&N but I don't think it would be worthwhile to swtich.
I got rid of the foam filter I got with my T-78 in part because the plastic (cheap) casing cracked.

Here's the new filter, it's a very fine stainless steel mesh, I can't remember the brand (it's Canadian) but it's doing a better job than the foam did. Now when I take the filter off the turbo, the mouth of the compressor isn't covered in grit.

How come you guys use those open element filters in your engine bays and locate them right next to your radiator ? , aren't you concerned about the negative effects of hot air ingestion buy your turbo / engine ? .
I have gone to some length to try to avoid this , the filter I use is a RACTIVE " heat shield " unit with a plastic heat shield encasing the entire element with a 4" opening for a "cold air" pipe hook up and a 5" connection point at the other end for the turbo (pipe etc) attachment.
My car is just about done so I will be able to evaluate the performance of the filter ,but I think it should be ok ,it was made fot an SR20DET motor.
I also "designed" and made my exhaust manifold to put the turbo a bit forward so that the compressor is over the radiator and the filtter more forward ,also using a 45deg nitrile elbow , so that the suction is ahead of the radiator and the discharge of its cooling fans , pulling air from the open space just above the radiator . I am also thinking about cutting a hole in the bonnet to allow a better cold air flow to the filter, by the way ,I am not being critical just sharing my thaughts , no need for any flames ,ok . I will try to get some pics up asap.

Marcel,
you are absolutely correct. It is guaranteed that the air going in to the air filter has been heated b the rad to a certain extent. I've not taken the time to isolate the filter from this discharge yet but it is my intention to do so. I'm waiting on a vented hood (bonnet) first so that I can build something appropriate. I would be very interested in seeing your setup once you post some pics.
