Talking Advice on Single Turbo Setup

Hey guys,

I hope I dont sound stupid but I'm a total noob here. I used to owned a Integra TypeR and sold it a while back. Since i've always been a fan of the 7, I picked one up just few months back. It's a 93 base model and the car is pretty much all stock. I'll currently having my interior redone (suede panels and bride seats) and will be sending it to a suspension shop to have the flex coilver installed as well as new rims and big brake kit (yes, mostly cause of the look for now).

Anyhow, I want to jump to the engine as soon as all that are done. I know I should probably drive the car and get used it before upgrading its power, but come on, it's a RX7, who can resist the rotary power poential?

So i'm looking to go w/ a single turbo setup and below is a list of item that I want to get. I'm not really a big hp guy and I really want to be able to enjoy the car on a more regular basis, so I hope to get about 350 - 450 whp. Please take a look at my list and FEEL FREE to throw any feedback, comments, and suggestions (good/bad). I've never owned a force induction car before and this is completely new to me, so please let me know what other parts I'll need or if there are stuff that I don't need on my list. THANK!

You might wanna talk to Sean ("Zero R" on the forums)... PM him... he runs A-Spec tuning.. a great source for buying a single turbo kit for RX7s

if you want good responce with moderate power (350-400rwhp) look into the GT35R kit Aspec offers

if your looking for the responce of the GT35R but want some more power (400-500rwhp) look into the 500r that aspec offers...... the 500r is basically a GT35R turbo thats been bored at to have larger wheels.

I will second the advice above. Sean does excellent work and goes out of his way to find the right setup for his customers' needs.

Checkout www.rx7store.net . You have lots of options for single turbo kits and parts for your 7. Stay away from the HKS turbo kit as its way overpriced and the ARC stuff is nice but a rip off.

Post some photos, it sounds like a show queen with all the stuff thats in her already.

What HP you are at now ? 350 - 450 whp is big HP . To get 400 + you need to do plenty of mods not including the typical stuff . But the car on paper sounds good, how many miles on that core ?

Some suggestions for turbos:GT35, Apexi 6

Should've put all the money spent on the interior, brakes, and wheels into reliability mods and then performance mods.

Wink

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'll get in touch with Sean and see what he says. He's a bit far tho (I'm in CA).

The car is not completely done yet. I just got the rims and bodykit from Japan but have no plan to put on the kit until at least I finished with the engine. When I have everything completed, i'll sure to put on some pics.

The car currently has 79,xxx miles and the primary turbo is not functioning. I'll be taking the car to Mazdatrix for a compression test soon as i get the car back.

Again, thanks for all the suggestions and please keep them coming. =)

ive also heard many good things about the Apexi RX6.... its known to have great low and mid end.. with a pretty good top end..... great responce.... similar to GT35R..... but i would go with the GT35R because theres more headroom for the future

and btw.... if i ever see a veilside fit on a FD... i WILL burn it.

continue with your current plan A) do the brakes, B) the suspension, and lastly the engine. all the HP in the world will do you no good when you have lost control due to brake fade, or a shitty suspension.

Well said. The first thing you start with is tires on a performance vehicle, and then move on from there.

When you are ready xia0w0ng, we can help set you up with a single turbo kit designed around the rest of your system..
