Thumbs up ? about hairdryer stylizes

i just got done reading about how you can Upgrade the compressor housing (and compressor wheel)on my stock turbo. this to me seems like a good and cost-efficient way to get a larger flow rate. it looks to me that there are a few options : S, SUPER-S, T5/6, V, SUPER-V, H, SUPER-H, 60-1 HI-FI, 60-1, 62-1 on the trim size. is this something that i can do my self or do i need to send it to Turbonetics to have them do it for me.

i was wondering have any of you done this up grade be for and was it worth it i know its only a few hundred dollers but am i going to see a differince or should i just save the bucks and get a biggens?

the performance is definately different with the "real" turbo upgrade, but the cost efficiency is a great factor. some of those upgrades you mentioned arent the "few hundred dollars" that you think they are. that 62-1 (with labor) is about $1K. you have to replace the comp. housing. . . other things are done as well. like wastegate porting and turbine wheel clipping. . . balancing. . . other sorts of very cool things. if you go to www.bnrsupercars.com you can see one of the best upgrades at one of the best prices. bryan is very meticulous about is work and comes highly recommended by many forum members. check out his website. i highly recommend that you send your turbo and manifold to him for an upgrade. he might even have some secret mojo working up or something. hehe.

I got a turbo by him, its a hybrid, and I was very suprised to how fast it builds boost. So far I got a little over 200 miles on it.. So well see how well it is, but as far as the quality of his work, you can tell his attention to detail is there, I look for stuff like that, and it was a very sweet rebuild... Specs for the turbo are in my sig.

I can get the hybrids also, from turbonetics, a little more pricey but they have a 1 year warranty. the hybrids work good until about 18 psi... after that the exhaust housing becomes a restriction, no more power...the manifold has a strange flange , so after the 60-1 upgrade you will have to go big on the upgrade[manifold, wastegate, turbo] anyways so........ you need to determine your ultimate power goal, then decide... a hybrids max hp? havent seen more than 375 whp from one- wich is not bad! is that enough for you??

i see that u have a stage 4 with the 60-1 wheel. i was wondering if you had to get a external wastegate or is this just a option. i know that the stock one can not be ported very much but where dose the gate go and what dose look like i cant get a mental pic in my head do you have a pic of yours.

and what did you pay for yours? i like the tial stuff what kind of low boost can you set yours at or dose it still get some creep

Perhaps things have changed (or perhaps not) but a number of tuners used to sell such upgrades and stopped when they proved to be unreliable. The stock shaft is small and can snap if you put a large compressor wheel on it. This was seemingly part of the motivation behind the RX7.com and M2 upgrades that replace the shafts.

First of all I have never heard of a shaft snapping or breaking in my life. it is a solid steel shaft that is over 1/8in. thick and has blades that are .0625 of an inch. Yes it could happen but you would have to be pushing the turbo pretty f-ing hard.

So like I was asking where dose the external wastegate go? Dose it go on the manifold or on the hot side of the turbo? dose any one have a pic of it so i can decide weather I want do just pay some one to do it or spend the afternoon doing it myself.
