I was wondering if instead of a heat gun you could use a hairdryer?

No, that stuff is really tough. Try using the oven....yes, the oven. Preheat to 425, then throw them in there one at a time for about 15 minutes, take out and pry abit, then throw back in for a bit, remove and pry more, etc.

I would be cautious about using the oven. The outside clear plastic section does not like high heat (whereas the back section can be heated fine). Many people have had that section crack or melt on them before. I have heard of people using a hair dryer and having some success, but like AMRAAM4 said, that glue holding them together is VERY tough stuff, so you might be there awhile.

use a utility torch - much more focused than a heat gun. Just run along the glue seam a couple times quickly ant the sfuff softens up. A heat gun spreads too muc heat to the lens and can cause problems. + I only had the torch.

I put mine in the oven at 250 for a bit to soften them up then used the torch.

You will save a lot of time and hassle by just getting a heat gun. It is a pretty nice investment, cause you will use it for things you never knew you would. Mine has definitely got its money worth, and I initially bought if for my lights.

I agree. A hair dryer may heat the glue enough over time, but a heat gun is quicker, and honestly worth it for such a relatively cheap mod.

lol, i dont want to be an ***, but this really made me crack up.

Go get a hairdryer and a heat gun. leave them both running for like 20 minutes, then stick you hands in front of them. See which one lights on fire first. Then you will know how impossible a hairdryer would be.

If you dont want to spend the money on a gun, go to homedepot, buy it, then return in like 2 hours later. thats what i did.
