I'm suprized you guys call this a race. A roll starting race? come on! Beat him from a dead stop. I'm a Viper lover at heart but im saving for an 3rd Gen RX-7. Oh and you can be 100 hp different on rolls and both cars hang even togather. I wouldnt feel big on that. I've seen a 03 Cobra and a 04 Neon SRT 4 pull togather on a roll but in stop and go racing its no Question Cobra no what i mean?
All's im sayin is rolls dont mean nothing.

That is incorrect. Racing from a roll and going for a.....how you say it......LONG race has nothing to do with weight, or HP/Lb. Racing from a roll virtually eliminates the driver, and has more to do with HP than Torque. Other heavy weighing factors on racing from a roll are HP, gearing and aerodynamics. The Viper is a proverbial brick at speeds in excess of 120mph without body mods. Having owned one, i would know

"That is incorrect. Racing from a roll and going for a.....how you say it......LONG race has nothing to do with weight, or HP/Lb." Then you say.."Racing from a roll virtually eliminates the driver, and has more to do with HP"
Then.... "Racing from a roll virtually eliminates the driver" Which is my point EXACTLY. Roll racing show's, more accurately, the FASTEST car.
I've been racing/street racing for more than 20 years, I guess I would know as well.
Cheers

My point was that a lot of cars can put down good number's on the dyno or good times at the track, but can't put it to use on the street from a standing start. Mustangs, in particular, tend to live and die on their 60's. Driver error on the launch compounds this even further.
A good 30-120mph race will alway's show who's car is faster(unless they're a guber that can't shift).

I agree that races from a roll do show who is making more power.
Your example about the Mustangs is particularly humorous, as i ran into a very healthy running, slightly modded (I/E/Gears, etc) Fox body. We went out to run from a dig at a light, and someone decided to ride shotgun in the Fox body to film the race. Light turned green, and my primary barely even spooled (bad vacuum hose leak, all fixed now
). Long story short, this guy absolutely LEFT me. Put 2+ cars on me right out of the hole. I short-shifted my way to 2nd, got even with him, hit 3rd and blew past him like he dropped anchor. We did a U-turn, and went again, this time with my primary not even spooling and a heat soaked bone stock intercooler. This time he put 5+ cars on me out of the hole, and once again come 3rd gear i blew past him like he was standing still
Best part was my car was stock *with* boost issues

I had a guy I know at the track that was certain he'd beat me in his Fox body on the launch. He'd been dodging running me on the street and thought he had me where he wanted me. I neglected to tell him I pulled high 1.5 60's on the slicks.
He was a little surprised that a little turbo rotary could launch w/ his big V8 on slicks.
After the race I went to the consession stand and came back to find him crawling all over my engine looking for the N20.
