'95 T-78 RX-7 vx. '96 Venom 500 Viper GTS
What do you think the outcome would be between these two cars?
The RX-7 puts down 440 rwhp @ 17 psi. The Viper has ran a best of 7.2x @ 93 mph in the 1/8 mile. I don't have a time on the RX-7. We will be going from a 20-40 mph roll. The 7 will be on BFG drag radials and the Viper will be on road race slicks. The Viper has intake, headers, exhaust and gear (3.55). Who will win? |
race
my bet would be on the viper unless you turned the boost up. where can i get the map that you used for your car? good luck on the race.
|
I'm pretty sure I already ran that race Roy.
When I had my old car I raced a Viper RT/10 (second Gen) that had the Venom 500 kit. We raced from a roll (65-130) and I pulled to where my bumper was slightly in front of his bumper. I was at 16 psi or so. The guy had his top off at the time so aerodynamics were stacked against him and the weather was extra cool that day. Good luck.. but I think you'll take him. Let us know how it goes! |
Your car has the potential to beat that Viper, BUT not at 17psi, remember #1, He's got better traction on slicks, #2, He's got some mods, and those cars wake up with bolt ons, and #3, he's got better gearing, so you CAN beat him IF you turn up the boost, but I don't think that 17psi is gonna beat that Viper. BTW, I think your car is really badass man, keep it up.

Do you realize that how short a 20-40 mph run would last? You would have a better chance of winning if the race laste until a higher speed considering the massive amounts of torque he puts out...

The only way to up the boost is to install my 3 bar map. Don't have time for that and I'm tired of going to the dyno for tuning. 17 psi is 440 rwhp. As far as having the gear on me, he's running a 3.55 and I'm running the stock 4.10.
Thanks for the props! :) |
The race is going to start between a 20 and a 40 mph roll. We punch it, stay in it, and see what happens. I don't know at what speed we'll stop! :)
|
either way it goes, it should be a good race. I raced an early year (95-96?) RT/10 (Viper was likely stock) back when I had twins...I got a jump on him from about a 50 roll and he never caught up until I left off @ 150Mph and he ricer fly-by'd me at about 160Mph... I posted it in the kills section a few months ago...
K PS I guess anything that goes 160Mph isn't really considered a ricer fly by, eh? |
I raced an older RT/10 back when I had twins pushing 330 rwhp on a bypass from 45 mph and then on the interstate at a 70 mph roll and put 7 cars on him both times before I let out.
I understand the older Vipers aren't as fast as the newer ones, especially the Venom 500s. I personally think I'm going to beat him. |

Any Viper 1996 and up (GTS or RT/10) have the Gen II motor (450 HP)... the old Gen I vipers (RT/10s only) pre-1996 were rated at 400 HP. Good luck. |
He's got some mods, and those cars wake up with bolt ons, |
I run fairly even with a Venom 550 here in Korea... but the guy can't drive worth sh*t.
My car makes 417 RWHP corrected at 15 psi. |

I think GTS's are a little lighter than RT/10's, but it should be a good race.

A Viper with the mods you listed will be putting down around 440-450rwhp and making around 480rwtq....might be a few less due to the 3.55 gear. I would say on a stock geared Viper(3.07) you would have a much better chance, especially at higher speeds...but with that gear multiplying that kind of torque wearing slicks.....he will most likely be able to pull pretty good from the get go.
If it were a 1/4 mile race and the driver was decent, especially with those tires...he would probably be running 11.2-11.6....the tires are really going to help a lot especially with that gear. A 3.55 on a Viper makes the first 2 gears useless without some good shoes. If i were you.....i would raise the roll speed.....that is the one thing i miss about having a turbo car...the top end pull. |

whoever wins, it will be a very good race. Good luck and be sure to video tape it. :noyes:

Vipers are faster than you think. They have a ton more torque and a much widere power band than we do. I raced an 02 gts with exhaust, no cats, k&n's, ecu, etc and only put a couple cars on him. Race was from a 3rd gear roll one time, and a 2nd gear roll another time. My last dyno was 430 rwhp. The 3 bar is simple to install. I have the instructions on how to do it if you want. There are just 3 wires you need to splice and a couple settings to change with the datalogit. Also, I don't think it is safe to run 17 psi on tyhe stock map sensor. Even if it is suposed to read to 17, there is tollerance, so it might not be accurate that high.

I agree... video tape it! I will host it!

I have a couple friends with vipers and with 370 rwhp I could pull them every time. We even switched cars with the same results..With 430/440 rwhp you should pull them easily... |
Well, I can tell you this, the most important thing for a street race is traction. You need a set of drag radials if you can break them loose when the turbo kicks in.
I tell you what I think would be better is for you to get some drag radials, do a good burnout and run him from a stop. Even with drag radials he's going to spin his tires with all that tq. people have run super low 11's with 400rwhp, you have enough power to run high 10's with traction. Thats about a second faster than him according to his 1/8 mile time. The only thing is thats all assuming a hard launch with traction. STEPHEN |
