Hello all ,sorry to have to bring this one back , but I need help. I purchased a lightly used ORUGA 5** twin disc clutch for my REX. I soon slipped the discs it came with so I bought a pair of brand new ones. After I put them in I decided to do a "pre Tune" clean up tune (on my own) 'cause I was getting pissed driving with extremly rich ratios , bad idle etc. That day I left with 300 lb/ft torque and 350 RWHP at 15 psi boost and 7000rpm.My ratios were in mid to low 11's in low boost an mid to low 10's in higher boost , ignition was retarded to an average of 12 degrees . I have since started some road tuning , and started to lean out the map and up the ignition settings , she make a lot more power now (I ended up off the road once!) now the clutch has started to slip again! It isnt even a month old yet!
I hope to soon join the 600+ HP club , what clutch would you reccomend for me?

twin-plate and be done with it. I wish i had done this but i bought a spec stage 3 and its the biggest hunk of dog **** I have ever owned. Brand new out of the box the pedal pressure felt like i was pushing on jello, and this is with a BRAND new clutch mc and slave! If someone gave me one i would put it in the dumpster right in front of their face no proplem.

Our Raceonly Twinplate is perfect for your application. We have them in heaps of 500rwhp+ street cars that see alot of street driving and get raced both street tyres and slicks, i have one in my own 700rwhp rx7 and it has been perfect. We have supplied the clutch to a few drag racers who have them in 750+rwhp 13bs and have run 165mph+ with our clutch. They are very streetable and very cheap to rebuild.

my complements to all who have contributed to this thread... lots of good clutch info.
with the adoption of AI it is now pretty easy to make lots of rotary HP and with it comes the need to uprate the driveline. i will skip axles rear ends etc as this is a clutch thread.
our primary problem is that our engine is so compact. compare the rotary's 13 X 13 X13 inch dimensions w an LS.
small block equals small flywheel and that's our problem. take a look at a V8 flywheel and you will quickly see the much greater frictional surface. they can get away running low spring pressure clutches because they have a mucho greater surface area.
inspite of all the marketing spew it really is simple. you have frictional area, frictional coefficient and spring pressure.
that's it.
there is no free lunch as you juggle these components.
the stock clutch has 1200 pounds spring pressure. combined w easily shreddible organic lining it works o k w the 185 ft pounds of rear wheel torque generated by a stock FD.
higher performance clutches go to a solid frictional material and higher spring pressure but single discs are stuck w the same small frictional area.
the Exedy Hyper single uses Exedy's proprietary cerametallic lining and 2655 pounds of spring pressure. it is good for around 350 ft pounds of rear wheel torque/450 rwhp.
go to an Exedy Twin Cerametallic and you have 2205 pounds spring pressure and it holds 50% more torque/hp. all with a friendly pedal.
ACT has taken the stock setup and just added lots of spring pressure along w higher frictional linings. i believe ACT is around 2970 spring pressure on the Xtreme and 2420 on the HD.
i am currently swapping a Tremec T56 6 speed into my FD and will unfortunatley have to sell my Exedy Twin Cera. i spoke w Exedy hoping they would make a couple of new discs w the T56 spline that would work but no dice.
i have contacted Quartemaster and will be running their setup. I used to use QM stuff when i raced and they are located only an hour from me.
QM will make a rotary flywheel, and will use their 7.25 double disc w 2000 pound spring pressure. the whole package will weigh 17 pounds.
i expect this to be finished in approx 30 days. hopefully, as an offshoot, the project will result in a rational twin option for the FD

It already is an option, I ran it on my TII all summer. Quartermaster sells their flywheel for rotary, part number 506520, it bolts to a rear counterweight. You then need a twin 7.25" clutch with 1" x 23 spline discs.
With modifications to the bell housing, you could also likely run a triple disk 7.25" clutch.

i predict lots of T56s beelining it from the boneyards to FDs this year and the clutch package will be close to off the shelf at QM.

I use the act pp and 6 puck unsprung for 4 years. And have daily it for 2 years. Not hard to drive and you learn easy how keep it from grabbing or chattering. I've got roughly 40,000 miles on it and still going strong. When it slips, I'll slap another $90 disc in and keep right on going. Clutchs are wear items so I go with what gets the job done and cheapest to maintain. I won't use any other.....no reason for me to

What's real power? I'm at 500+ and the fella up there ^ said he put down over 600+ and still holds...besides even on my radials, the tires still tend to spin no giving the clutch a chance to slip....

One I'm talking about and use is the 6 puck solid disc. It holds....also the thread is for 500+ cars...we not talking about Ernie T level or whatever "real power" your making. The act will do the OP just fine
