Thats not to say that people can't use 3mm apex seals with out problems. However the factis when yoiu start swapping inards you can run into problems. All in all my opinion is don't fix what is not broke. What you spend in 3m,m apex seals, you coul,d put towards good tuning and be better off then hoping a 1mm difference will save your engine from detonation. Stock 2mm seals can hold up to 30psi from what I have seen, so why bother with the trouble for 1 more mm. when it is ALL in the tuning anyway?

I feel that if 3mm apex seals were so good that mazda would have opted at some point in time to use them in the motors as stock equipment.
After all does anyone remember the 6mm apex seals and Dual side seals that came in some of the 12a motors in the RX3 of the 70's???
It was done in an effort to create a longer lasting motor that would hold compression for a longer time........But they didn't stick with that for long....

3mm seals were used in 12a and 13b motors from 74-85 guy. (at least 74, not up on my rotary history before that point)
You can't' think of it as a 1mm difference, think of it as being 50% thicker, which is definitely significant. I do agree, however, that in general people are trying to bandaid an entirely different problem than seal strength. I also believe that 3mm seals definitely do have their place.

i dont think its an apex seal that went because i drove home 74 miles with no issues it just idles a little rough at times and it lost 20 hp in the high rpms so we will see and as to the tuning comment im pretty sure ray knows how to tune a rotary

[QUOTE=zinx]atkins 2mm seals on 54psi down the 1320:
QUOTE]
Whats the fuel system of a car running 54psi look like?
What kinda HP does it make at 54psi?
What ecu are you running?
I've noticed when you blow a motor with the hurley 3mm seals, you can change the seal and back in business. BUT, if you blow a motor with 2mm stock mazda seals...good luck!
Thanks,
Anthony

[QUOTE=AnthonyNYC]
That has nothing to do with the size of the seal, but rather the material used. The nature of the seal when it breaks is completely different.
