400whp @ 15psi what turbo setup?

Ok,

I've done a lot searching on the forum, and asked a lot of people about their setups and now I'm asking the forum. I want to achieve 400whp @ 15psi, preferably with a quick spool up.

The story is I blew my motor last year after an injector failure which resulted in all 3 of my apex seals on my front rotor to shoot through my turbo. (Not a good time) So now I'm rebuilding my motor and setting everything up fresh.

The new motor will have 3mm apex seals and a street port. Standalone ECU is an E6K, 1600cc primaries and stock secondaries. Now my question is what turbo and intercooler setup would people suggest. As I said I want to make 400whp at 15psi. I have a boost controller so I will be switching between 12psi and 15 depending on how much power I want. I want it to have reasonably quick pick up i.e. pretty damn close to full boost by around 3.5K RPM.

For an intercooler I would like to use a SMIC so any suggestions on that would be welcome.

As for turbos I've been looking at the T04R, and the GT40R but am inclined to look at anyone which will match my needs.

Thanks,

Raven

I sincerely hope you mean stock primary and 1600 secondary.

For quick spool and 400 rwhp I'd look at GT35R, T04S/E or T60-1

Get that baby ready for the Ottawa Meet!!!!

I would say your best overall bet would be the T04S. Will give you the power you want and fairly quick spool up.

The GT35R is ballbearing, a more efficient design and will give you even better spool. But a bit more more expensive.

T04R is would be pretty laggy compared to your old setup.

to4s and 60-1 are supposed to be the same thing right??? thought i read that somewhere.

im running a 60-1. . . i should be able to hit 400rwhp at 15psi. . . considering my last attempt with a to4e hitting 347 at 14psi. hahaha. and that was with problems i wasnt even aware of!!!! anyways, 60-1 should suit you fine.

What happens if you put in 1600 primarys and leave the secondarys stock? Does it really matter? fuel is all goin to the same place.

1600s dont support idle very well. . . when building a car with a horsepower goal. you should buy injectors that suit your need. . . not injectors that over achieve. by doing so, you keep the injectors in an efficient range. fuel mileage will be better, etc, etc.

I see. But can't you tell the piggyback (SAFC) how much fuel the injector will put out? SO say at like 1000rpm and less you can have it runnin lean yes?
thx for the answers btw.

No, you tell the fuel computer (SAFC) how much more or less fuel to dump in/take out. It has nothing to do with controlling the injectors.

wow now im confused. Isn't that what I just said?

Adding or subtracting fuel, is this not controlling an injector?

Bear with me please, once I get it, I'll get it..

^ I think what he is saying is, since the SAFC is a piggyback, you can only tell the ECU to add or remove fuel up to a certain %.

You can't control the actual injector pulsewidths (like you can with an EMS).

Huge 1600cc's are designed to dump a lot of fuel, it would be hard to get the fine control needed (small pulsewidth) at idle with those. People have done it though, just with big porting...

As often as this exact question comes up "400hp @ 15psi" and all the responses are the same...

Let's have a check in.
Who has a running car with 400+rwhp @ 15psi or less psi (of course with quick spool, because that's what everyone wants )

is 400rwhp @ 15psi (with a quick spool )that easy and common?

Sorry yes 1600cc secondaries . So the GT35R should provide fast spooling and achieve 400WHP at around 15psi? What is the difference in spooling between the t60-1 and gt35R? I assume the t60-1 will be slightly slower anyone have an idea of where each would reach full boost?

Will a SMIC be sufficient, any recommendations?

Glass man, I assume your saying you have 400whp @ 15psi. Can you tell me your setup? Turbo and IC, and approximately what rpm you get full boost.

GT35R 1.06 A/R, 45mm wastegate, GReddy 3 row FMIC, 1600 secondaries, Denso pump, modified UIM and GReddy Elbow, Unorthodox Racing main pulley, removed airpump, a/c, powersteering, GReddy underdrive pulley kit, HKS Twin Power, PFC.
A few more things, but that's most of the power or related modifications. I see full boost around 3,600 RPM.

So is 15 psi full boost for you then (ie 15 psi @ 3,600 RPM)
Also are you running stock ports and pump gas?
What were you're dyno #'s?????

Justus
sorry for all the ?? Glassman

I have 405 rwhp at 14 PSI.

I run a full exhaust, street port, T04S (60-1 + T04S cover + P trim turbine + 1.00 A/R exhaust)
