400bhp @ 0.6 bar of boost???

Hello

I'm new to the rx7 scene and don't know much about tuning the rotary engine, so I will need some questions answering.

I looked at a rx7 today to buy and test drove it around the block. Everything was fine and the car is really quick. The only thing was, it was running 0.6 bar of boost and making in the region of 400-450bhp (and it did feel like that when I was driving it).

I need to know whether this is possible on these cars or is the seller talking ****.
Again it did feel like 400bhp as I've not long ago owned a Mitsubishi Evo which had 330bhp and this rx7 would absolutely destroy that in a race.

The dealer said the rx7 has just been shipped to the UK from Japan and had no history or rolling road printouts, but i do know the following spec :-

1995 Rx7 2.6 Type-R

Manual, Petrol, 40,000 miles. HKS mushroom filter, HKS suspension, HKS exhust system, HKS front mount intercooler, BLANCING puleys, GREDDY boost gauge, GREDDY temp gauge, GREDDY oil pressure gauge, GREDDY ext temp gauge, BLITZ SBC boost controler, ESPORTIF light weight rear spoiler, TRD gear ****, RECARO driver seat, FETT turbo timer, PRODRIVE 17 light weight alloys, Air conditioning, Central locking, Driver airbag, Electric mirrors, Electric windows. HKS TO4R turbo with external waste gate.

Please feel free to leave any comments as I need all the help i can get

Not a chance is that running 400-450.

I have a To4R and if you think its quick at .6 bar you are in for a shock at 1 bar. It may well be capable of 400-450 at the flywheel (if the motor is good) but you aint seen it yet.

When i was on Stock twins i could pull away from 350 hp evo's all day long and mine way only pulling 320-330 at the flywheel. A well sorted Fd with an R fitted will make an Evo look daft.

You should be thinking more along the lines of has this car had a hard life?? Does it have good compression?? an i going to need an engine in the near future?? If it was me i would want at least a print out of a compression test by a Rotary Tuner like WGT or REworx (depending on where abouts in the UK you are)

You may want to go on mazdarotary and have a chat with the guys in the Uk about it and see if anyone recognizes it.

Thanks for the info

I will have to come a go in your car, just so i can compare to see what 1 bar will feel like LOL

The engine seems really healthy as it started up straight away with 1 turn of the key and did'nt seem to struggle to gain compression.

I will also get it checked out by my local tuner (Weston Performance).

Thanks for the advice and look forward to speaking in future

(I will post up pics when I've made my purchase)

Keep in mind the FD is very light (2800ish pounds) and has a 4.11 final drive.....a 300 bhp FD could pull away from the evo you mentioned, especially at highway speeds.

Well it is "1995 Rx7 2.6 Type-R"

Maybe the extra 100% of displacement allows it to run extreme horsepower at lower boost.

0% chance a T04R will do 400 to the wheels at 9psi, not on a 2 rotor.

i put down 308rwhp @ .65 bar, and im running a T04R. just wait til you feel it at a full bar. it's awesome. add AI and start chasing down bikes. that's my plan for the summer.

its very possible that this car is making 400bhp @ .6bar, thats approximately
340rwhp @ 9 psi.

He meant to say 380 h/p not 308 h/p!

it is possible. with a good bp, good compression, high compression rotors, correctly tuned on race gas or alcohol, 10-11k rpm cutoff, big turbo. the key is higher rpm cutoff.

How many boosted 2 rotors out there run a 10,000 rpm redline? 0.01% of them?
