4 best single turbos for the FD?
4 best single turbos for the FD?
I am looking for the four best (best performance, best reliability, best price, best kit) single turbochargers. I am planning on going single over winter as my project and need expert advice. I am also going to put that infomation onto my website
twinturborx7.com
which after the upgrade would be
turborx7.com
I want the turborx7.com to be a good page all about singles while the twinturborx7.com would be about, obviously, the twins.
Thanks! (posted as well at nopistons)

I personally got the To4s System because of the Cast Manifold, and the ease of rebuild of the turbo.
GT35/40 kits seem to be putting 20 more rwhp to the ground though. T78 seems to be another really nice turbo setup, and if you have the money the KKK offered by SR is putting some strong numbers out except it's too high in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Go here and start looking at actual results as a start:

My picks off the top of my head would be T04S, GT35/40 for 15-20 PSI range.

If it were my money it would be either a GT35/40 or a GT40R much nicer turbo's than the old school Greddy and TO4s turbo's and it isn't that much more expensive. Not to mention full ball bearing center section.

Jason,
What spools at the lowest RPM? If you had the money to spend would it be worth the gt35/40?
I have the Blitz FMIC (from rx7store.net :-)) and what kit will bolt up to that? i have seen that elbow on some kits that bolt to the stock place where the y pipe would.

GT40, afik, can't be had with a BB center section. Just a plain bearing.

Sean, I've been waiting for you to start letting out some more info on that kit. Exactly how much more are you expecting out of the GT40R vs. the 35/40. My half bp would choke on top end with a 35/40 but the GT40R sounds like it might be the ticket. What's the deal with it? Thanx in advance as always.

Is this using genuine Garrett dual ball bearing CRHA's? They do not list that turbo as an option and I remember someone mentioning (Magnus?) that the GT40 bb couldn't be had or wouldn't wor (something to that effect).
Are you able to sell just the turbo? What trim for compressor and the turbine? Thanks in advance.

ETA on arrival? I already have a GT40 compressor mated to my T78 compressor housing and turbine. I don't think it's a perfect match but I love the endless power (once it spools) of this compressor. It really rips up top. If it's a few hundred more than a plain bearing GT40 I might be game. What's the status on people needing rebuilds on their 35/40's? Is it now a bit more feasible?

Since so many people like the Greddy T78 kit because of its flow characteristics, then why dont more people go for the Innovative ballistic dual ball bearing T66?? Isnt that the same specs as a T78 but with a full ballistic Garrett cartridge?? I would think that you would get the awesome top end of the T78, but with less lag.
Anyone care to comment on this??????

Lots of people don't know about the turbos, and they are very, very expensive!

Hmm, does anyone else have some more info on this Ballistic T66 Turbo? If it really does have the same topend output of the T78 but spools much quicker... that sounds like the ultimate street setup. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in this?

between the GT35/40 and the T04s, would it be better to grab a 35/40 being its ballbearing or is the T04s ballbearing also ?
Sorry I dont know turbos well and am just researching a little before winter...

I have the GT35/40 and it makes insane power. I really would like to try the GT40R. If it has similar spool charcteristics as the GT35/40 but more power I just dont know what turbo could be better!! And the difference in price is Minimal. We are talking hundreds of dollars not thousands. When your doing a Single turbo upgrade its not about Hundred of Dollars. Its about Thousands. The benefit for Dual Ball bearing turbos outweigh the cost. I am thining about selling my GT3540 and Buying the GT40R Kit.
