i've never used the ssautochrome wastegates, so i dunno what they're like. i do remember that thread i started about the manifolds and everyone said they were junk and they'd fall apart.... so i said ok, show me one...

Actually if you look in the threads, I posted pics of the fc manifold. I took the manifold to 2 shops, both of them think I spent a nice ammount on it.. and its not like I took it to some lil shops.

Ted, you think that just cus it says hks on it, means that it is top notch stuff? If I were to take out the hks name from the wastegate, you wouldnt be able to tell the difference between the 2. Greddy is another overpriced pos. I had 2 of their IC's and they never ever cooled like my ssautocrhome IC. But wait, how can that be??? greddy is a big company, they put "r&d" into every single product with their name on it.... Please, its free enterprise, if they want to make an identical product, they can. And if they want to make it cheaper, then thats awesome...

 

FWIW, I scanned through several thousand ebay comments last night, seems SSAC is Rude, and their manifolds often have fitment issues. Other than that, there were almost no quality complaints(a couple for misrepresenting turbos). They are cheap, they are jerks, and for someone who knows what they need, and can handle a little modding of parts they are a great deal. They are a bad deal if you do not kbnow how to evaluate the part, and make sure it wil work properly for your application. Too many people read "JDM Style", HKS Style" "GT40 Type", and think they are gfetting an original. Those are 50% of the complaints, the other half atre what I would chock up to miscommunication about what was included. About half the time they promptly take tcare of you, but if you leave negative feedback before your problem is resolve they will hang you... This is bad business, but the odds are in our favor, as 1-2 out of 100 have a problem. Try those numbers on any performance shop, it's really not that bad. I feel it is a smaller risk than buying used, and I am not kicking down ~700.00 for a WG that can be had for 200.00 delivered with 5 springs, two flanges, a gasket, and a dump tube(hopefully more than one spring rate, and not just different colors), and I may see if the HKS diaphragm will fit. other than that it is a very simple piece of equipment, and is certainly not ~1000.00 worth of materials and research as HKS charges for a GT gate. The difference between me buying it, and some others, is that I accept the risk, and will tune as if it will fail, not go in with blind faith, and be suprised when the "5.6psi spring boosts to 14psi.

My experience is that HKS and Tial wastegates never fail, period.
Your argument about Trust / GReddy is moot, since we're not talking specifically about their products.
I've seen Trust / GReddy wastegates FAIL.

You know, I have this theory on why people do this...
It's a psychological effect about trying to push their "superiority" over someone or need to point out other people's flaws, and it has to be done in public.
Even with literally dozens of invites to take this kinda bickering into PM, only ONE person has done so - everyone else refuses (especially this guy who's nick starts with B and ends with C ).
Seriously, I really don't give a **** if you like me or not - if you have a problem with what I say or do on the forum, send it to PM.

i have a ss auto gate and a HKS 60mm gt sitting right here next to me, the ss one has had some probelms which were eaisly fixed by machining down the spacer in the bottom as it was too thick, the HKS is quality, we have been running one on a mate 13b for 5 years and it will hold 6psi boost or 30psi perfectly with a gt42rs turbo on a bridge ported 13b with out raising a sweat

half the problems you guys have with boost control is the size of the back housings you use step up to a 1.15 or 1.32 and your problems will go away even with a 40mm wastegate,

i ran a hybrid garrett t04 with a turbonetics t66 comp wheel, 1.32 P trim back end to 460rwhp on 16psi boost with a 42mm garrett wastegate, it would hold 7psi all day, but is also has a lot to do with manafold design.

I'll have the SSAC gate by late next week, 202.00 delivered with 5 diffferent springs, an extra flange all hardware, and a polished flanged dump tube. We shall see. Carl

Funny how you mention "superiority" because that's exactly how you come off, consistently, through and through. I think you're projecting that so-called theory of yours unto others. Stop trying to read people's minds, Ted, and placing thoughts and attitudes in them that may've never been there to begin with. You come off like a superior, greater-than-all kind of guy online with great frequency; this is what Dave is pointing out and why he's calling you a "hypocrit".

yup......I use a 40 mm with a T51, it will run 7 psi when directly on the gate..
Its the relationship of turbine to gate, rather than gate size alone..
