1st gen turbo
hey guys
i thought u guys might be able to help me on what the best setup would be for my car.
right now its a 79 1st gen, 12a extend port, 48 ida weber, 3inch exhast. ive had the suspension re-done, new shocks, springs, lowered a lil'.
I have around 10k AU to spend on getting a turbo conversion done, what do you reakon would be the best way to go? would it be best to keep this engine, turbo it, and use a weber efi system. or drop a t2 engine in and spread the 10k over that in mods..
I really feel i would be wasting money getting an engine with a stock turbo stock efi sys' when i could spend the money on buying bigger n better bits n pieces for the 12a.
thoughts?
thanks.

For 10K you could get a rebuilt and ported 13BT from a S5, and run it with a decent computer. You'd probably have enough for the usual T4 upgrade as well. There are plenty of good workshops in Sydney that could do it too. It seems like your exhaust will be fine. It might be worth keeping the standard S5 turbo system and fitting a better gearbox and diff though, 'cause the S1 items probably won't last long. Also, a brake upgrade wouldn't go unnoticed, although you could be stretching the budget by this point.
IMO it's a better idea to go with the 13BT swap than spend money on the existing 12A.
Others may offer different opinions though.
See ya.

yep definitely an option he should be looking at considering he said he had 10 k to spend on his own ,by the time he sells his car and adds the 10 k spending money you never know you might be able to kick Rice in the guts and get yourself a bargain
