Question 12A Turbo check list?.?.?.?

So I am working on a check list to put a small turbo on my 1983 RX7. I have done some research and I am at the stage of stating to install and get things going here this is my check list so far. PLEASE add to it if there are things that I need to include in this install.

 Small Turbo with integrated waste gate Mitsubishi turbo off an mid 80’s Labaron
 Custom turbo header
 Oil sending sandwich between the filter and engine
 Oil lines to run to the turbo
 Coolant lines for turbo
 Intercooler
 Blow off valve
 Stock 12A rotary engine rats nest and emissions removed
 1983 RX7
So I am forgetting something oh the car have twin electric fans with aftermarket oil cooler installed turbo cap for the Nikki carb I will make myself, is there anything else I need that would keep me from installing and driving my car?

HI

One thing that is critical in a blow through carby turbo system is a pressure balance line to your carby fuel bowl. This prevents the boost pressure from overcoming the fuel pressure and starving your motor. Should be as simple as drilling and tapping a fitting into the float area of your carb. Run it from somewhere around the comp cover and definitely before the cooler for faster boost sense response.

Most other things you have covered. you may need to play with the dizzy also to alter the ignition curve but i cant help with that.

Good luck with it,

MSD 2225 fuel pump
Mallory 4309 fpr
maybe a surge tank or swirl pot, for safety
5/16" send and 3/8" return fuel hardlines
direct fire ignition (DLIDFIS)
semi-locked distributor for 10 to 12 degrees total advance
a stock flywheel or light steel (anything that is heavier than alumimum)
a turbo that is sized well for your engine such as S4 or S5 on a 12A
3" DP but the rest of the exhaust can be 2.5"
carb hat with a boost reference nipple to the mallory
some kind of BOV and a boost gauge hooked to both primary runners of the manifold

And the most important part: a boost prepped Nikki!

Have you seen any of my posts in the 1st gen section? I spent the better part of last year boost prepping four Nikkis and trying various things to make them work better and better. I wasn't satisfied with the info bad83 provided and couldn't rely on what Sterling and Carl ever said about boost tuning, because they never got it right. Fortunately there was enough knowledge on the forum last year that I felt it was right for me to get started. In other words the call of boost was too strong and I ended up finding the answers I was looking for, one way or another!

Just today I did some more tuning and got the carb pretty much where it's going to be with the parts I had on hand. Lots of power and still drives well.

I have more things to add to your list specifically about boost prepping the Nikki:
remove the float bowl vent solenoid
make the air bleeds tunable or have some spares in various sizes handy (this is more important for secondaries, which are easier to machine, thankfully)
an assortment of jets bigger and smaller (yes I said smaller) than stock
Sterling accel pump mod is a must
solder filled slow secondary air bleeds, but swap the nickel plates 60s to your primary side and drill them out first. I used a .045" drill bit. Then fill the primary slow bleed with solder and install in secondary side.

The list will go on and on. Maybe you'd better ask in the 1st gen section. Everybody here is mostly EFI.

It's always a pleasure to converse with you Jeff. The information you provide is always in depth. I know I need a lot more prep before I go and bolt on a turbo. That's why I am here collecting knowledge as well as checking my list. LoL. I will move this over to 1st gen to get more responses and information. As I progress on this project.
