10's with a s4 high flow turbo

An Rx Engineering 1st gen rx7 ran 10.9 @ 123mph on Wednesday night at Eastern Creek Raceway using a s4 turbo 2 engine, high flowed s4 turbocharger & a microtech ECU.....
Does anyone know of any other rx7's running 10's with a high flow standard turbocharger anywhere in the world??

That's probably a bit more than just a simple high-flow job - probably has an external wastegate, etc. etc.

Low 300's to the ground is attainable with a high-flow turbo quite easily. Get the car weighing about 1500 pounds and you can probably run a 10.9 .

Thats a very cool car, but I'm not able to tell if thats a turbo out of an 87-88 TII if thats what you mean by S4 turbo?......Back when I had an S5 turbo in my "91" I ran a 12.0 @ 116, but this guy has his car totally setup for drag'n especially with that 9" Ford r-end......If its an S4 turbo then I think thats totally awesome.......anyway

what i cant quite figure is why one would go to the point of having a custom plenum, 9 incher, IDA style TB, external wastegate etc etc but still running a hybrid turbo..............

slap a healthy sized full T04 and go for 9's

Money perhaps.

A highflow S4 is cheaper than a T04.

The turbine housing looks flat enough to be a series 4.

when on compare all the other stuff that car has done to it, the price difference between a hybrid and a full T04 is very little

IDA style TB set up isn't cheap, nor is fitting a 9 incher at the back. retaining the stock plenum/manifold and some of that saved money on a full T04 would have yeilded better results in my book

Yes the turbo has the wastegate welded shut & a 45mm unit fitted to control boost properly.
Yes using the standard manifold & a T04 would have given a better result but the owner wanted to get the most out of this set up just to prove that it could be done.
The turbo is coming off early in the new year & a TA45 is being fitted, along with an engine freshen up & dowelling so the 18psi limit that the car runs now can be lifted.
The car ran 126mph at the jamboree but only 123mph at eastern creek(probaly due to the high humidity on the night)so maybe another 2 tenths are there??
The car weighs in at 2464pounds less driver, ready to race

It would have made more power with the T4, and on slicks it would have blown the diff apart.

Build a solid base, then up the power. A good recipe.

I agree with Steve.

It's also pretty cool for someone to try getting some good numbers using something that maybe not so many people have used.

Once the TA45 is on there, he'll be just like everyone else. Farken fast .

a T04 would not have blown a 9 incher apart, you read my post wrong steve, i said use the standard manifold instead of the custom plenum and IDA TB and use the money saved by retaining the standard manifold to purchase a T04 with, i never said anything about retaining the standard diff...........
