Turbo timer worthwhile?

Is it worth while fitting a turbo timer on a single turbo installation? My mechanic is saying not necessary for normal street use when the turbo is oil cooled due to the advances in oiltechnology, but leaving the decision to me.

turbo timer is a real good idea for a oil cooled turbo. oil may be good, but it still cokes up at 500*. If its a wet turbo, then its not necessary.

if its watercooled (wet as patman puts it) (and oil obviously) then no.
