E-shaft Keyways

A person on the 2nd generation forum has a problem.

He has a E-Shaft in his engine that has the keyways for the Front pulley and the Flywheel, located on opposite sides of the E-Shaft.

A series four/five E-Shaft has the keyways in the E-Shaft, cut in the same side of the E-Shaft, not 180* out from each other.

So I'm wondering if someone on this forum has a E-Shaft from a first gen 13B engine, and can confirm if the keyways on the front and aft end of that shaft, are on the same side of the E-Shaft or are they 180* out from each other? As on a 74-85 13B engine as shown in the jpg.

We're trying to find out why his E-Shaft has the keyways on the front and rear of the shaft, located 180* out from eachother. Thank you.

This question intrigued me so I went out to the shop and checked the shafts I have on hand. Of the following shafts, 83-85 12A, S3, S4, 13B's, NA and TII, all have keyways on the same line. None of them are 180* offset. If the 74-78 13Bs have offset keyways, Jeff20B would be the one to ask about that.

i just looked at mine too. ive got 12A shafts from 1972 spec to 85, 13B gsl-se, and s4 s5, and they are all the same

the keyways are all on the same side, which is the opposite side from the front throw on the eshaft

i dont have a 74-83 13B shaft, but to put that in an FC would take a different front bolt, as the 85 and earlier dont have the thermal pellet

I've never heard of a factory goofed shaft with the keyways 180° wrong.

I have a couple '74-'78 13B shafts here to look at and compare to 12A and FC shafts. All of them match. Good joke, though. You had some of us going.
