Control Arm Loose

When doing my pillowballs I noticed that this part circles in the picture had a ton of play, should there be play there? My mechanic said that was okay but I think that might be one of my reasons for cluncking noise in the rear end. Anybody have some input on this?

Thanks,
Greg

Ive got lil minimal play with mine so that is most likely the knocking sound is, i would check your wishbone bushes too. if your going to replace do both sides not just one.

Will do, but I was kind of hesitant to replacing it because of the little dial setting on the side, what is that for, alignment or something else?

That's used in aligning the car.

Think about it though - if there is movement then your alignment will be garbage.

Not to mention that arm is put under tremendous tension with the weight of the car on it. The play you can find on the bench will be amplified under working loads.

best thing to do, and what i do everytime i f**k around wid my car is take pictures with ma phone before hand. just take a picture of the camber settings, and all you have to do after you have replaced the bush or bearing torch it back up and align it back up to the pic. cant really go wrong bud
