Ok guys, I'm new on here so be gentle.......................

I've searched but can't find it on here. I have an 81 GSL. What is the stinking bolt pattern????? I thought it's a 4x4.5. which is 114.3. I also hear 4x110. Guess I could measure but I was sure someone here would know right off the top of their head.

 

Have you read the FAQS yet? All 1st gen 7s are 4X110, except the GSL-SEs which are 4X114.3.

Obviously not deep enough. I don't have a lot of time to search these forums. Thats why I rely on knowledgable people such as yourself for help.

Next questions. It sounds like I would be better off converting over to the SE bolt pattern because the wheels I want come in 4x4.5. The front I'm going to work on converting to the GSL-SE struts and hubs which will give me the correct pattern.

The Rear is where I need help. Can I get axles in the 4.5 pattern and if so can I use the SE rotors on my 81 GSL rear? What about the brake rotors. Different?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look, we're not trying to be asshats, it's just that we have spent a lot of time and effort creating the FAQ and the Arichives specifically for people who come here looking for answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

The people who wrote the FAQ and Archives don't need them, we make them for the people who *don't* know so that you have easy access to information.

If you come in here admitting that you're too lazy to spend a few minutes using the resources we've created for you, then why would we be un-lazy enough to retype something we've typed a dozen times before?

The 79-83 front spindles are smaller than the '84-85 ones. If you want to swap in the -SE bolt pattern in front, you'll have to get the entire spindle, swap your spring and shock over, then get new discs, inner and outer bearings and grease seals. It's only worth doing if you really have a set of rims that you want for that bolt pattern, otherwise probably not worth the time, effort and money.

The rears are harder. If you get your axels redrilled, you'll also have to get your discs or drums redrilled to match. I don't know a machine shop I trust enough to do that, so I'd probably swap the axels and disc assembly from a GSL-SE, but that also involves swapping calipers, discs, lines in the back and the master cylinder.

Quite a lot of work to get a different bolt pattern, but it can be done if you want it to.

Ok, that reply might have been a little too harsh but my point is if you could answer the question or direct me to the area I can find it in and it takes less typing than giving me a "We're tired of answering questions" then just don't post. I've had this car about two weeks and I'm trying to figure this stuff out and sought out like minded people who were willing to help.

These boards can be a great resource for info but frankly, I'm not posting anymore questions.

I have a stressful job, a house, two kids that play about a gizillion sports and I really don't have time to spend hours searching through archives. A simple link to the correct archive would have been good.

Going to the archive section and looking on the 1st page where the thread is would have taken less time then it did for you to post your last response. :-)

 

4 X 110 mm....if you haven't got the resources like a bunch of mechanic friends with machining and fabrication skills, you really don't want to try swapping anything especially hubs and such...you'll be in way over your head and have an unuseable RX-7 in short order. eBay for wheels or hit the classifieds for 1stgens for wheels...that's your best course of action.

Don't try the swap, you're not ready for it...

 

Anyone know if the wheels in the logo up top (red 2nd gen with grey wheels) come in the SE's 4x114.3 size? I haven't seen those specific wheels anywhere and really like the style and color. Nor sure how it would look on a 1st gen but considering them all the same.

 

this was very helpful, I couldnt figure out the bolt pattern.

only problem I have is that I'm finding rims off a pile, so how do I measure to find this measurement properly?
