Boiling sound from engine bay
after driving my '93 fd, even if only for a short period of time, after parking it, there is a violent boiling sound coming from the engine. it sounds like oil is boiling or something. does anyone know what this could be, or have you heard this before in ur car, or heard of it. if so, please tell me how it can be fixed, or what should be checked out. thanx.
it's your coolant boiling.
pretty normal for cars with highly stressed engines in cramped engine bays. the water pump builds up water pressure inside the engine, about double what radiator cap pressure is, and when you shut the engine off it loses the internal pressure and the boiling point of the coolant drops, while at the same time the residual heat from the engine soaks even more into the coolant (the metal is always hotter than the coolant itself) with the end result being the coolant boiling inside the engine.

this is NOT normal at all and needs to be addressed. do the cooling fan mod and you should be fine. if you search for it you'll find a ton of threads talkin about it. also, you probably have air in the system. that could do it too. to be 100% sure you can flush and fill the cooling system. that and the fan mod should take care of it...
Be aware that the sound you're hearing coudl also just be your coolant bubbling in the system. I doubt that it's boiling, so it's possible that it's just bubbling...this sound is pretty common with FD's, however I've never heard of it being a major issue. Make sure that your cooling system is clean (i.e. flush it), that your radiator isn't blocked up (maybe think about an aftermarket unit), and that your thermostat isn't stuck.

Also, check that your system has the right amount of coolant in it. You might be short...even though your bottle shows full. There is a possiblity that you might have too much air in the system...very bad.
Cheap insurance, bring it to a shop and have it pressure tested. Very simple to do. Snap-on has a tool kit for this. Works great.

Not good
I had the same problem a few months ago, I went threw the normal procedure to remove the air from the cooling system . After a few times the bubbling stoped but returned a few days later. I was a bit concerned so I had the shop check my oil and unforunatly found coolant in the oil. My o-rings were leaking coolant into my engine and the air traped in my cooling system was actually exhaust .You can have your oil analized to see what going on in your motor. I had a new motor put in my car last month no problems since. Good luck
