I don't think I'll Premix 2 stroke oil again, in gas.
Well About a few days ago, I thought I would give it a shot. Figured what the hell lots of people have been using it, i'll give it a try. Went to Walmart and got a can of yellow penzoil 2 stroke oil. I filled the gas tank with 92 half way and then added about 4 ounces into the tank and then filled the rest of the tank up, as to get a good mixture. I then let it sit for a few days. After the few days, upon start up as expected a lot of black smoke came tumbling out the exhaust.
Took it for a about 20 miles or so, mostly highway driving and then a little bit of city driving. Well the car was okay on the highway. In the city it ended up running like crap, it couldn't even hold idle, trying to die off. I had to hold the pedal in just to keep it alive. And when I tried starting it up again it seemed to be more of a hassle, almost flood like similarities.
Now before this, the car would idle perfectly a little under a grand, and vacuum was about 12 inches, and drove fine on the highway. The 2 stroke engine oil was the only change since.
What do you guys think, normal and I need to give it time? Or my car just flat out don't like it?

If that 2 stroke oil is castor, it will separate in cold weather. When I was racing 2 strokes, I usually resorted to a 50/50 mix of Redline (synthetic) and Blendzall (castor) to keep the oil mixed in with the gas.

I fouled my plugs several times with Amsoil racing synthetic pre-mix....had to push start the car....not good
before that I ran the car for several years pre-mixing "Quicksilver" bean oil intended for outboard 2 stroke engines and never had a problem....just alot of deposits and dropping vacuum....cleaned up with MMO
I've since given up on pre-mix entirely....hope my OMP doesn't take a dump

I use the pettit Protek-R every third tank or so. I don't notice any difference in smoke out the tail pipe when I use Protek and without. I don't like the 2 stroke oil.

I premix my car only on race days; for daily driving I don't.
That said I put 4oz of Penzoil synthetic 2 stroke oil in a full tank of fuel on race weekends and have absolutely zero problems. No smoke, no sputter, no plug fouling, no nothing. You can't even tell it's in there.

Pettit recommends it and they've been racing FD's for years. I trust them.
I, like Damon, only premix at the track.

isn't the ratio something like 100:1 (fuel:oil)
Thanks for the info guys, well I'm guessing it's another one of those issues, where the fd rotary is its own individual and reacts differently from its brethren fd. The black smoke only lasted a couple of seconds so I didn't take it seriously. I'm not trying to dog the process, just that my experience thus far hasn't been swell. I mean I could be wrong and maybe the idle is something else, but I haven't changed anything since premixing, so that is my only conclusion. Perhaps I fouled the plugs doing this, and only one rotors kickn' but if that was the case I doubt I would have been able to highway/freeway drive

Since that's exactly the same setup as I, did you notice any change in the vacuum? I'm curious to know what's the reasoning behind just on race weekends?

The thought behind it is that the OMP doesn't provide enough lubrication for racing/hard driving applications.

I premix also and never had issues with premixing any kind of oil, I used 10W30, 2 stroke and many other kinds of oil, didn't change my idle, fouled my plugs nor felt any difference, sometimes I would put more that I should and the car would smoke even when warm and didn't fell no difference.

How many miles on your engine? How many miles on your plugs? Do you regularly run fuel injector cleaners? I have over 80k on my engine and I have premixed with various types of 2-cycle oils and have had no problems at all.
