This switch for the 84 automatic does not appear to be rebuildable due to the epoxy filled back (see photo).

I doubt I can take this thing apart. I was able to source one from ebay and It's a gamble. Not going to mess with the replacement before I swap it out. My main concern is my reverse lights. the car starts only in Neutral and in Park however the reverse lights dont kick on. See the picture and decide whether you believe this switch can be taken apart cleaned up and repacked.
Thanks!

looking at it closer I do see those small teeth along the perimeter of the epoxy. maybe i just got to bend them back to pop it open. What do you think?

that screw is for adjusting it. I don't believe that adjusting the switch will fix the reverse lights coming on. It has to be a contact issue within the switch.

Neat. Had no idea what this is until I googled it, but that doesn't stop me from having opinions, does it?

Here's a shot of a Rover switch (obs not your part) but it gives an idea of what's (likely) going on inside there:

I'd leave the epoxy alone. First I'd bend up the tabs gently and see what kind of movement I get and understand the construction (can't really tell form the picture). If it doesn't move easily I'd grind the rivets and see what happens.

Edit: I of course defer to anyone who's taken one of these apart! Photo of Rover part comes from http://pixels1.com/cars/cars/rover-8...or-switch.html

I've got the same problem with my 84 Rx-7. Were you able to get yours working again?
