head light issues

Hey Guru's of going fast, my head lights are opening but the lights wont do there thing. I went for a while opening and closing them until the lights would finally shine, but one night my buddy had my car and they gave out completly, and as he was told by the cop, its illegal to not have working headlights. Anyone have any ideas on what my problem might be?

I've had this happen due to dirty connections on the fusible links. I've also seen dirty contacts inside the light switch (on the column) cause this problem. If cleaning the fusible link terminals doesn't fix it, disassemble the column switch, scrape the appropriate contacts and carefully reassemble the switch.

Labeled pictures of the column switch disassembly/reassembly are here.

or find a known working switch and replace the bad one.

Or wire in a relay at the steering column near the combo switch to take the electrical load off of that switch. Worked great for my Parent's 85 GSL after I got tired of cleaning that combo switch every year for them.
