That's why I'll never get a car from 83. Or if I do I'll put another year speedo in it. 85mph max speedo's freak me out.

That's right, this ain't no Datsun lol! Thanks for confirming as well as others. From what I remember at 80mph it's at like 5000 or 5100 rpm, but I'll see next time I drive it. A 5 speed will happen in the near future for sure.

IMO, I think the ideal SA would be a GS WITHOUT a sunroof

You guys are really missing out on the sunroof, nothing more fun than cruising in the spring and fall with the roof off. I've never owned a car without one. To the OP, great car, a real gem.

Picked up my first non-sunroof RX-7 about six weeks ago. 1979 GS non-sunroof. I like it better without the sunroof.

I too like the non-sunroof SA22c's. I don't know why, but if nothing else there is less chance of rust on a non-sunroof model.

Thanks man! I mean don't get me wrong, if my car had a sunroof when I was buying it I'd still buy it. Mine just happen to be a S model which don't come with one. I already own a car with a sunroof, so in that aspect it's not something I need for this car. Plus especially on the SA, it gives it more of a classic look which suits it

Oh yeah that's right, I saw your post. Nice find man! Yeah when you own a non-sunroof SA is when you understand why it's better without a sunroof.

If the rear ends are different you'll need to mess with your speedo as well.

Nissan (or at least Datsun) used a different rear for their 4 and 5 speeds.

So I just took it out earlier and at 60 mph, it's at 3500 rpm. At 80, it's at 4750 rpm. Both readings in 4th gear of course.

That sounds about right, in 5th gear its about 4000 rpm at 80 mph. I have a little sheet
I printed with the speeds correlated to mph in each gear. At one point my speedo was not up
to snuff and I had to use the cheat sheet to make sure I was not speeding in excess.

Speaking of the 85 mph speedo, I swapped mine for a 79 SA speedo that goes to 120 to
remedy my speedo issue.

Haa right on, okay cool thanks for the info. As far as the a speedo not being up to snuff, mine slightly bounces as it starts going up. But at highway speeds or steady speeds, it moves normal and steady. Probably has something to do with the speedometer cable?

Yeah check your cable. You can disconnect it from the tranny. Then you can pull it out of the cable casing
from below. Wipe it down, get it clean and then lube it with light oil or wd40. If you disconnect it from the
speedo and feel ambitious you can clean the casing with some solvent and an air gun. Don't put too much
lube on it when it goes back in or it may gum up the speedo mechanism.

Thank god I still have my SA

Been driving it here and there on the weekends but been itching to improve/modify it. My main upgrade at the moment would be to find a 79/80 5 speed and then put an 82/83 flywheel in the process

It's the 81/82 flywheel that is compatible with the SA rotating mass. They have a "21" cast in them and weigh right at 23lbs.

you’re right! My bad. Btw, for that flywheel would I be using my current counter weight or the one that would be coming off the 81/82 car? Thanks!

"Rotating mass" includes the front counterweight, normally guys just replace the flywheel. However, there was one guy recently who complained about his shifter shaking excessively at low RPM and I believe he changed the front weight to match the flywheel.

I wanted to ask if you were ever able to get the window sticker from the seller. I remember you mentioning it some time ago.
