My first SA! With pics
Just picked her up a week ago! I've owned gsl-se's in the past, but I gotta say there's something unique and special about these SA's. It's a 79' S model with AC, which I need here in southern CA. About 62k original miles I do plan on changing the 4 speed to 5 in the near future, but it's fun for now. On these SA's I prefer no sunroof but not bad on an FB, no sunroof just matches its classic look more IMO. Took some pics after I got it detailed.

I basically bought it from the original owner. He had a stroke like four years ago and his niece had it for the last four years. He had it garaged since he bought it and so did his niece ever since she had it. However she bought her third car and needed room in her garage so she decided to sell it Still has pretty low original miles at 62k and she did drive it like once a month to the get the fluids running. It drives smooth overall, but I still think I have to get the carbs tuned or something. I guess one step at a time.

SUPER clean! In fact, I can't recall seeing a cleaner SA. Great find, and glad somebody picked it up who will care for it as much as the original owner. The speedo been refaced/regeared? My SA speedo only went to 85mph until I had it refaced to 135. Very cool,

Thanks I appreciate it! Yes, definitely going to take even more care of it.
As far as the speedo, I believe that's the way these came as far as I know...

Very nice SA!! A lot of options for an S model. Aluminum wheels, AC, side moldings. Nice to see it has the original plug wires. All too often those are long gone. Its a very clean car.
The speedometer on the 79 models were calibrated to 130 mph. In 1980, per the government mandate, the speedometer was calibrated to only 85 mph. In 1983, the 130 mph speedometer returned and in 84 and 85, the speedometer was calibrated to 140 mph.
Your car appears all original other than the shift ****. I've never seen one like that before, even on an early production 79 model. The floor mats are also something I've never seen before but seem to match the wine color of the interior. You also have the original stereo with an uncut black stereo surround. Its so nice to see an all original SA! I wouldn't touch that stereo. I'd leave it. You'll have a HAAAAAAAARD time finding an uncut stereo panel.
Do you know any back history on the car?

very nice car! looks very original too, i see the hose clamps are correct, and in the correct orientation, radiator has its sticker, plug wires (these will probably test bad, but save em for car shows) etc etc
as Dave points out the 1980-1983 cars all had 85mph speedometers, it was a US law, so EVERY car sold in the US had these. i'm not really sure what the point was, or rather it was thought this would keep us safe from high speed crashes, its just hard to see how. the other law that effected the Rx7 at the time was the 17 digit vin, for 1981.

It's a California car for sure. The engine shot and sticker on the left quarter window confirm this car was sold originally there. Cars sure age very gracefully out there. I think that shift **** is the standard 4 speed **** in S models. You can probably find the plastic snorkel to the intake. This is a very nice car, some additional work in the engine bay to detail it out would really help complete it and make it pop.

Thanks everyone, I knew this was a pretty original car but not that original the seller told me that those are the original floor mats, but not sure. I have another pair that goes over them so they don't wear out. Yeah I still have to get the engine bay more detailed and yes it's a 4 speed so I believe the shift **** is the way it came.

Do you know any back history on the car?[/QUOTE]
Thanks and thanks for that info!
I don't really have any back history on the car. I just now that the sellers uncle was the original owner and that he kept it in his three car garage all the time. She said that she thinks she has the original window sticker somewhere and when she comes across it she'll send it to me, so hopefully she find it

I'd follow up with that from time to time. The window sticker is the only way to currently document the engine is original to the car. This will only become more valuable in the future. Also, I'd see if she had any pictures of her uncle with the car. Start a history that can be passed on to future owners.

when you ran the warranty history sometimes the engine number is there, however it stopped accepting the pre 81 vin's a while ago
