The un-drilled holes overlap the lever.

Actually, from that CAD drawing, it looks like he COULD still drill the last circle with a hole and not have the lever show through...

281 posts worth of perfecting, and people still wanting to nitpick this guy...

It's already been stated, this is above and beyond what was offered as a dealer add-on, and has a 99% approval rating. Leave it be and get it out to the people.

Hey, Sideo himself has said he wants this to be as perfect as possible, I don't think the input is bad. I'm fine with it the way it is now, but if he did want to make it just three undrilled holes, it would be totally doable and wouldn't require another prototype, I don't think.

Okay, now THIS idea I'm posting WOULD require further iteration. I'm just throwing this out there--**not saying I wouldn't buy it without this!!** But I was looking at the empty space on the pedal, and it got me thinking about the RX-7 logo that's on the stock rubber pedal. Does this look like an interesting idea to anyone? Might be a PITA to do though:

Worried you'll forget which car you're driving?
JK. It does fill the space nicely. Although I'm meh about it/logos, in general.

LOL yeah I'm not big on logos either, but just thought I'd throw it out there as a gap-filler. Actually, I don't know if Mazda would object to that, now that I think about it.

Sideo, proceed.

Disregard the comments made henceforth!

I'm only kidding around guys, but like has been mentioned, I think Sideo has put enough R&D into this and has it damn near perfect.

As for the undrilled holes overlapping the lever...isn't it supposed to be that way? The reason they're undrilled is because that's where the metal lever that connects the pedal itself to the pivot point up top, is welded into position.

One last note, on the subject of that lever and the welds; I remember from your earliest of posts that the lever on your prototype was significantly narrower and a beat weaker looking than the factory pedal/lever. I would suggest beefing it up and mirror the factory as close as humanly possible to avoid any chance of either A) breaking, or B) bending of the lever itself.

To Narfle:

My apologies, I went back and re-read the post prior to yours and understand why you said "No" with the kitty cat meme. Got it!

Narfle is right, you can't leave that hole drilled because the lever is welded to the pedal in that position and the placement of the lever MUST mirror the OEM pedal, exactly!

There is no room for creativity when it comes to the placement and position of the lever dude. It has to work just like the stock pedal, or this becomes a mod with the possibility of major downsides that it need not have.

At the end of the day, the replica Sideo has put together looks SO MUCH like the brake and clutch pedal that really, very few people will take a second glance at it. It's just going to blend in with the other two. True RX-7 fanatics will know, but no one else will even pay special attention to it. And if they do, the certainly won't be critiquing the super rare mod that they don't have and wish they did...

My CAD model does not have the weld fillet between the lever and pedal face that is what im more worried about saving space for

That does fit nicely in the dead space. Not really my style but cool idea. To have that font like the OE plastic pedal has the lettering would need to be laser engraved probably adding another step and more expense to the pedal.

Narfle has answered this already but the holes unfortunately have to be placed like that if you dont want to see the lever/weld behind them.

Thanks Nick!

Ill run some FEA on the pedal to see what kind of forces it would take to bend the lever. I am not too woried about it though. The clutch lever is (just pulling these numbers from memory) ~0.300" thick, the break lever is maybe ~.450" thick. The clutch pedal takes a decent amount of force to depress especially with an aftermarket clutch. The break pedal needs to be strong enough to take the full force when someone slams on the breaks. The gas pedal though only has to overcome the force of the throttle and gas lever springs (granted out of plane forces could load the joint/lever higher).

Thanks again and looking forward to dialing in the wide pedal, dead pedal, and RHD dead pedal.
Matt

Thanks Sideo, I"m excited for this project to execute! Will you be selling the pedals individually or are you going to wait to have all the designs finished prior to production?

Yours will be the only non-stock part on my car, if you can believe that!

That makes me very excited! I want this to look as OEM as possible so I think it will be a great fit for your car.

I am going to wait until all the designs are finished so I can hopefully get some better machine shop pricing.

Looking back through the thread there were several versions which drilled that particular 1 hole, Narfie, so it's not exactly an irrational request worthy of a grumpy cat meme.. but, I understand you don't want this project to fall through at the last minute and are getting a bit jumpy.

Don't get too thirsty or he might jack up the price to double at the last minute! *hint!
