Oil leak at oil cooler line/fitting

Hi can someone please tell me how to fix this. It's an 87 non turbo and oil started leaking from the oil cooler fitting to front cover. The side of the lines. I recently removed and replaced the front cover and it's been leaking here ever since.

you can either buy new copper washers, or take it apart and take a torch and get the copper cherry red and let it air cool to anneal it

Ah I must have lost the washer. I assumed there was no washer to the oil cooler line and it was just tapered...so there's definitely a washer missing?

No, there is a washer on it at the moment. You will need to buy a new one or take a torch to the existing one...just like Iduley said.

Make sure you undo the line and take off the washer before torching it. Do not torch the washer the way it sits now.

Been a while, but just think there are crush washers at the oil cooler and engine rear fitting, but none on the front cover.

I looked at the parts catalog and I don't see a washer at the front cover to oil cooler line. I took off the fitting and there's no washer. My problem now is finding a thick enough washer that will crush when the fitting is tight. The gap between the bottom of the fitting is quite large.

Is everyone sure there's a washer on the line side?

I didn't think there was one either and that's the same diagram I looked at. Either way is the proper fix just put a washer there regardless if there was one in the first place?

Part# 10-600J(joint,union)...takes a crush washer 41-600.
This is the fitting that goes on the front cover.
The Oil line itself will then connect to that union fitting.

1040b in the parts manual..page 11 show it.

Okay I do agree that there's a washer on the Union fitting to the front cover. There is that smaller aluminum 16mm washer but my leak is on the other side of the Union fitting . Where the actually line connects to the wider side of the fitting. (Not the oil cooler side) The 16 mm washer only fits on the front cover side but the taper fitment between the Union and the line is leaking.

There is a washer between the metric to flare fitting at the front cover. But the fitting on the LINE itself is a taper. No washer.

I'd take it apart and check the taper for damage. Clean it up well, then tighten it well upon installation. If the leak persists, then replace the front cover fitting. If it still leaks, the lines are next but the Mazda lines are rather pricey, so at that point there are AN based replacements you can make yourself or buy from the vendors (ie. Mazdatrix).
