How many FDs are registered in the US?

I don't have state to state breakdowns... but I did just get *registration* numbers for every car on the road as of 2015.

Any guesses as to how many FD3S's are currently registered in the US?

I can break it down by year - so give your best guesses...

1993 - Originally 9,976
1994 - Originally 3,403
1995 - Originally 500
TOTAL - 13,879

I can't find the thread but last year sometime a guy pulled the numbers through some insurance register and found there are about 6000 that were currently registered.

***EDIT***
Found the tread and it looks like you were in the middle of that discussion. Never mind...

2005, October: 9796
2007, January: 9340
2011, mid?: 8070
2014, mid: 6095

The 3 years 2011 - 2014 lost about 1/4 of registrations, so in 2 years that would be about 2/3 of 1/4 which is 1/6.

My guess is just above 5000, how about 5042

I honestly wouldn't expect a steep decline in the coming years. You would think at some point the cars that are in good shape would remain in good shape due to having responsible owners..etc but who knows.

Ok... I'll give a hint.

If you own a 1995 - that's one of 247 still registered.

1995 - 247 Registered

Nothing I love more then the wisdom of the group.

So the group guessed 4822 collectively. The ACTUAL number is 5574.

Congrats to Smokey The Talon who was only off by 74!

1993 - Currently 3,818
1994 - Currently 1,509
1995 - Currently 247
TOTAL - 5,574

I don't exactly know what to make of it.

On one hand only 40% of FDs are still registered. That's kinda sad, but makes the car even that more collectible. Possibly more alarming, in 2011 there were 8070, in 2014 there were 6095, and now there 5574. What's that about? Basically 500 disappearing a year? How will THAT trend stand up? I assume it's gotta level off, but even still, 500 a year feels like a BIG number.

The flip-side of this coin is all the FDs that are sitting in garages, under tarps, at the shop unregistered but having life breathed back into them. I know I have one of those kicking around.

All I know is; I'm glad to be a part of a small (and shrinking) group of purists.

I'm curious what percentage of the registered numbers have engine swaps. V8 FD's are continuing to increase in popularity.

I thought about that as well. What's the over/under? 200? 500?

Whatever that number, each 100 is another 2% out of the pool.

5500 out of 13,000. Wow.

Adjust for Lord-knows how many shells sitting in backyards, and deduct for LS1 conversions.

P.S. How many NSXs still out there? There were only 8900 total in the us in the 15 years run, with about 6000 of them in the 1st 3 years.
