has ayone done this? i remember years ago that someone did it to get rid of the stock v belt system. do you need just the pulleys or the accessory bracket as well? every pic i see of a full 13b-re the accessory bracket is always very poorly pictured and everyone who does an re swap never uses power steering or ac :-/
I haven't done it but I wish mazda would have used a serpentine belt on the FC. Even the V belt design they used sucks. I understand why they configured the belts that way, but it still sucks.
Speaking of belts, I am so sick of the alternator belt. I think it may be the garbage orielly auto parts alt I am using, but it's trying to eat my belt alive!
I had an expensive bosch alt before and never had an issue. It died and ate the belt. I needed an alt in a pinch so I had to get an auto parts store alt. It died a month later and ate another belt and roasted my battery. Exchanged it under warranty and 2 days ago, when it was raining, I had max load going with the lights, wipers and blower going max. It started eating my $20 gates belt! So now I got to by ANOTHER belt and I am really contemplating throwing this alternator through the part store window.
*Note: Yes, it has correct tension. I don't want to tighten it to the max and chance thrashing my stationary gear bearing.
Well this is my serp belt setup from a Cosmo motor from my digging around . There's another thread a few weeks ago I believe talking about this . Just another option . Have Taurus alt swap as you can see
I am S5 so I don't have any options due to having to retain the air pump. I daily my 7 so I need rock solid reliable and the mechanical air pump is as reliable as you can get.
If I decide to throw this parts store alt through their window, I am going to look into the Taurus alt or an FD alt. On ebay there is an alternator rebuild shop that makes a rewound FD alt with an FC v belt pulley already attached, rated at 200 amps. I am really leaning toward the rewound FD alt with FC pulley. 200 amps for $200 bucks and it's plug and play.
Understand . My setup is a bastard child of a build (6port turbo ) . I had a fd alt that went out but was used so that's what I blame it on lol . With the Taurus my voltage is awesome now . All lights don't dim when other things turn on now ( fan , brakes ,wiper ) . So 200 can only get better .
I think atkins could have made their serpentine kit work with the airpump. If you removed the shims from the air pump to space it back and have the adjustment bracket modified (bent in the middle to compensate for it sitting farther back) it would then be lined up with the alt and water pump pulleys. So then, you could route the serpentine belt from the main pulley to the air pump then have the flat side of the belt wrap around the water pump and then the belt could snake over the alternator pulley and back to the main pulley.

Cosmo uses v belt for ps and ac, so you need to do some mismatching of FD components, even then im not sure about the PS.
Might be easier to have none or convert to electric
From what i've seen that 13b-re accessories(p/s & a/c) sit lower than their 13bt counterparts. Could they and their mounting bracket be retrofitted onto a 13bt or are the mounting studs and bolt holes in different locations?
I'm also curious about this. I would assume the accessories black bolts up the same way and the power steering has to be lower to accommodate the intake tube from the intercooler
Banzai thanks for that pic . Now I see how the comso is setup stock . My pulleys are from a Cosmo . Going from dual v belt to the serp with and Taurus alt is one of my fav mods cause it helps with slip and looks cleaner I think .
Banzai one question . You still sell the adjustable tensioner ? I think that was you
Trick would be to see if a different pulley could be put onto the FC ps pump
Ribbed belt ac is possible, i know because i have it on my car bolted to a FC PS delete bracket (fd compressor, fd tensioner )
its been a long time since i had ps and was not even considered when i powertrain swapped
Honestly its not worth the trouble for the ps but if insistent i would suggest an electric ps pump
And its all much easier on an engine stand if you are trying to figure out the AC set up the main pulleys are much easier to deal with
Someone was saying they were going to try a serpentine set up with an actual tensioner be interesting to see if he follows through
