when you where a noob

most threads talk about your cool ride...

post your noob moments

i'll start

few years ago i was 14 -15 years old starting my freshman year at high school my dad had shown me how to drive that summer on a dodge avenger manual... i only stalled once the whole summer by accident i forgot it was in gear and let go of the clutch after i had already parked. thats not the noob moment this is during school i take my dads manual chevy s-10 for a ride with a friend we spot some hot chicks walking by i stop at the stop sign and right before i drive off i of course stall the truck... then it won't turn on anymore... i was stuck there for like the longest 2 minutes of my life finally starts and since i'm already feeling stupid i grind the gears and quickly left back home... my friend laffed the hole way home. that day still haunts me...

I actually considered buying a rusted out S4 n/a from a dealership for $3000. Ironically, I eventually ended up with another rusted out S4 n/a, but I payed much much less than $3000 .

I paid 1500 for an extremely clean (stock intake, oem mudflaps and rims, no tint, full interior, good seats, etc. etc.) but blown up s5 rx7. I bought it off my brother because I had been drooling over it for 2 years. The coolant seals were going out for about a year and a half when I got ahold of it. It lasted another year and a half though and is currently sitting in my yard. I over-paid and it also caused another noob mistake. lol.
I traded a CLEAN 90 miata with headers and a full exhaust for a ,once again, blown s4 but this one wasn't clean at all.
Noob mistake number 3: I still swear that rotary engines are the best and rip *** by haters with steam rolling out of my s4's hood.

uhg lol, I'll admit...

When I was 17 I bought a fully built awd eclipse. Never drove a manual before, and this car had a uber light wieght flywheel. Yeah I noob'd the whole way home...

Then two months later I traded that car for a Turbo II, and at the time I never knew that they made RX7's older than FD's. Traded cars because the eclipse was about to blow up, and it turned out to be the best decision I've made.

Amazes me how far I've came since then.

Back in 90 my parents bought me a 84 burgandy 5 letter. I always loved the FB and the only FC i liked was a T2. Well that was not gonna happen. So alas I had a pristine FB that had 38k miles.

It was owned by a nurse who hardly ever drove it. So i drove it across country to go to school, Indiana University. I ended up wrecking it on a country road and slamming it into a telephone pole strapdown cable going about 40mph. I only had the car for a year...

I was heartbroken, and I was doomed to get a 83 Volvo 240. So when I turned 21, I saved and bought a 85 gsl. And the rest is history. I have now owned close to 20 rx-7's since then, and 1 FD and a 2006 Shinka that I bought brand new!

My parents think I am crazy. But wait till I can take my dad for a ride in my new project....a boosted Miata! Thanks for leeting me share guys, hoped you enjoyed the story.

1. Bought a 89 Starion for 1700 (first car I owned), had a bent frame, blown motor, spent 4k trying to get it to "run" gave it to my buddy and he cut it in half (with a 16" abrasive saw).

2. Bought my first 7 next, wrapped it around a tree trying to drift, with the pre. owner in the car with me none the less.

3. Trying to show off in my buddies just body kitted/painted s2k (after a rain) and slid it into a parked truck. (2500 to fix it)

This is within about 3 years or so.

Also that’s why they call me Crash.

I was a noob at being a noob. A lot of guys started early 16yo or maybe even younger. I was 20! Learned all the basics from 20-24, then was forced to learn after I blew my engine. Now I'm 27 and the mind is no longer the sponge it once was. Hard to learn new things now, though I have learned A LOT.

I spent many hours trying to get my old '78 beater pickup to start. Distributor cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, even killed the starter motor trying to start it and had to replace that too.

Turns out it was out of gas. The gauge never worked and I never thought I could burn through 15 gal in under 100 miles...

Famous words of a rotary owner! When I got my first RX-7 (also my first car) that was the one thing I never looked up: gas mileage. I was on the forums reading everything about them except that.

oh man, we've all got our noob moments, i dont really know how specific to be, or how vague i can be. Probably my biggest overall noob choice was my 91 acura integra. needed a new distributor and a shop quoted me $600 parts and labor, and i just KNEW i could get a whole new motor for $1200. b16 with Vtec, which is like crack for honda heads. well never got the b16, instead i ended up just completely rebuilding my motor, and of course i didnt want to go turbo, because "turbos blow engines" so instead i spend 6 grand to have a 13 second, 13:1 compression all motor 1.8L LS/Vtec.
i made the best out of that situation and went all out on that car, only the best for my beast, picture attatched. My second noob mistake was at the wise age of 22 i traded my integra in at a dealership, which gave me 3 grand, for an STi.
wow, that car was a dream to own, but at 22 i couldn't quite afford the $525 car payment and $250 insurance payment.

i must say that i don't regret any of my noob mistakes b/c they guided the road that led me to where i am now with all my knowledge, but i still have plenty to learn.

And that's the best attitude, I agree 100%. Its not all about having the fastest car for the least amount of money, I would rather learn things my way even if it costs more.

I bought a Dodge Stealth R/T @ 16, it was the biggest POS I've ever owned. Everything broke, engine, trans, accessories, etc. I remember I spent two months trying to get it started after I shorted out the battery and found out it was a blown engine fuse.

The alternative choice was a 5th gen Honda Prelude. I would have been dumb as **** if I owned that car, lol. I probably would have enjoyed it as a toy and never gotten interested in cars, studying business or some **** in school instead.
