Angry Help! RB StreetPort Exhaust install?

I have just purchased the Racing Beat StreetPort Exhaust system for my 79. I am having a huge problem with getting the mounting locations lined up. I have a feeling that there are some mounting peices that have gone missing from my orginal exhaust as this will be the 4th time I have changed it out. Could someone post a pic of the RB exhaust system mounting points installed on their car so I can get an idea of what to do. Anything would be helpful at this point as I am going to pull out what little hair of have left. Thanks much,

Bob

Should have a 'T' bracket/hangers welded on between the header and the muffler, along the pre-silencer runs, IIRC. The hooks on the end of the hangers are where the rubber doughnuts attach and stretch to mounting points (stock locations).

Should be fairly straight forward (at least it was the last time I did it, twice).

I can get a pic in the a.m., if needed.

Pictures would be best. Even after you tell me I still can't picture it. Sounds like I might be missing more than I thought.

Unfortunately mine being a SA it doesn't have the same mounts as a FB. I gathered that much from the instructions supplied by Racing Beat. Thank you though for posting the pic.

The exhaust system you bought has the hangers as shown, correct?
Why not run rig something up to these hangers to keep the lateral movement stable?
Also- I'd call RB and ask them the best way to mount to an SA model. I'm sure they've hit this snag before.

On the streetport system you don't use those rubber doughnut looking things. there is a hanger that comes with the silencers that you bolt to the tranny.
let me go see if I can take a picture....

okay got some pics.
there are only two hangers on the silencer portion of the exhaust. The one on the header side is the tranny mount I mentioned. Then there is one on the rear before the muffler. Hope this helps.

Thats perfect! Thanks FDRacer. Exactly what I needed. Helps out a great deal. Now just to find that peice that mounts to the Tranny. I seem to be missing that as well as the rubber mounting peice towards the muffler. Think that Racing Beat or MazdaTrix would have thoughs. Another thing that seems to be different as the header that came with it sits a bit farther back than yours. The screw whole that they have between the presilencer and the pipe is about half way between the two bolt wholes on the body. I gather that if I get the mounting peice to the tranny it would connect to the whole on the side infront of the one you are currently connected to. I hope!

the long rectanglular piece should of came with the exhaust. The triangle-like bracket that bolts to the tranny was already on my tranny (it used to hold up the catalytic), as was the rear rubber piece....so those might be junk yard items. Maybe a forum member might have a parts car.
Do you know if 79' trannys have that bracket mounting location?

According to the instructions!? It doesn't say anything about a mount being on the tranny. Actually the kit came with a "L" Bracket and the straight one. Well I'm supposed to use the L but it doesn't show where to connect it to. The two mounting points I see on the body it doesn't reach or the angle isn't right and I don't have the 1/2" clearence they are requesting I should have. That is when this all started. Have had the system since last Monday and have yet to get anything more on than the header.

On my SP system I am only using the rear mount show in his 2nd pic. Don't know if its good or bad not to have on up front or not. That front one can be made using a small piece of metal from the hard ware store (cut to size and drill two holes).

If push come to shove, just make you two brackets out of some metal. The local hardware or tractor supply should have long strips of metal. Cut to size and drill holes for the bolts to go in. You can bend a 90 if needed using a vise.

Or call RB but that might take a few. I would have already been mad and made some. Some times the things you make are better than the company can get you.

WAIT......... I know what is wrong! Sice it won't fit right give me the SA and start fresh with a FB. HA HA!
Man, to have another sa again.

Good thought but I like the SA. Ha Ha. I like the idea of just skipping the front mount all together but I see that posing a problem for me later. I plan eventually to be about to switch out between turbo and NA. Basically I'm going to have a custom downpipe coming from the turbo to the presilencer. I think it would put too much strain on the turbo and manifold which will have 15 pounds on it already. Let along adding the 80 pounds from the presilencers. I may take your advice and go look for a custom peice from the hardware store if I can't find the parts I need in my box o parts off the car in the shed. Thanks.

related question ...

i know that this is fairly elementary, but ... would not having the hangers and mounts installed result in a harsh vibration?
