Info about Mazdatrix
So my motor popped and if I can't get one that's already built. I am thinking about getting a rebuilt by mazdatrix. My buddy Fe speaks high about them, but I wanted to see if anyone here has dealt with them. any insight will be good.
Thanks

i didn't have any rebuilds w/ them but have had them work on my car before. as far as socal rotary shops go, mazdatrix along w/ sidepex are my favorites. the mechanic i always talk to, john, is great, but dunno if he's still there. they're a solid shop

It's dark like Poe.
My $0.02...
The folks there are good people and John is very knowledgeable, but I'm not sure he does all the work. When I got my car back after a rebuild, there were a few things that didn't jive with really high-level work, namely, the tensioner pulley was installed backwards, the starter was held in with just one bolt (which started coming loose) and the gasket between the intake elbow and throttle body wasn't seated correctly. I mean, John was good about it and all, but it was a pain to suffer through 405 traffic to Signal Hill a bunch of times to take care of what are ultimately careless mistakes. I haven't had any real issues with the rebuild per se, but I'm always thinking about it, which is a real bummer. Kind of like, "Did they forget something more important than that?"
Also, the shop quoted me on a three week turnaround time, and it turned into about three months. They wouldn't call to inform me that there was a delay - I had to keep tabs on things. Again, good people all and all, but maybe there's a break in the communication between the guys who are working on the car and the guys answering the phone.
Whatever though. To them, I was probably a young punk kid who didn't know better and probably didn't expect much. I got a lot of what felt like lip service and doublespeak.
I got fed up with what must have just been a rough few months for the shop staff and took the car to Tripoint. There I was treated respectfully, regularly updated on developments on the car by the same contact, and when I got the car back, it was exactly what I was expecting to get. Pricey though. :/

Best motor I have ever put in a car i got from them. It came with full compression #'s started right up and ran like a scalded dog. Note that they ship COD (or at least used to) and thier motors basically start at $2300.. But well worth the $.
