WTB- motorcycle
im on the market for a motorcycle. im kind of a beginner. ive drove a 636 a few times but i still need to get leaning down. just figured id check the forum and see what anyone on here has. im looking for something around a 600cc-750cc. i really like the ZX-6R and CBR600 but ill consider anything. im currently looking at a ZX-7R, but just testing the waters. it doesnt have to be in perfect cosmetic condition, as i may lay it over a couple times and i have no problem replacing body panels. id like for it to be in as near perfect mechanical condition as possible though. well, let me know what youve got. thanks
KAW Z1 1973 motor in an Amen rigid frame . Bored to 1397cc fully built ,rajay turbo using 15 -20 lbs on the street . Water,al injection ,two hundred hp with the twist of the grip .I built it 25 years ago and it should win at the shows as in the past .I have not run it in 10 years but a day or two should put it on the road . Twin disc in front and one in the rear ,lots of chrome, drag bars ,single seat ,all hand made body work one of a kind ,suck through carb electronic ing and rev limiter . It will need repaint before showing .
Stick with a 600 class machine. especially since it's your first bike. I personally won't own anything but a Honda. I work on motorcycles for a living at MR cycles in Asheville NC. I am a tech there. I can tell you taht the Honda's are the most reliable and trouble free bikes for the most part. Aside from factory recalls and such. ( which all manufactures ghave had a ton this year and last)
Another factor that may come into play is your financial situation. If you have good....er great credit you can maybe qualify for the honda finacim=ng.. They are the HARDEST to finance with. Kawasaki and Suzuki espeacially are easy to finance and almost anyone can get it. That makes a big difference in how many gsxr's are sold in comparison to CBR's.
My 2 cents. Take it as you will. If you can't get a honda get a 636 Kawi.

I have an '04 Suzuki GSX-R600 that I might be selling. I laid it down last june in a very slow speed lowside slide. All damage was cosmetic and included the left side fairing, slight scratches to the front fairing, left turn signal crushed, left mirror ripped off, and some of the black paint was scratched off on the crank case cover. I have replaced everything on the bike that needed to be replaced so it looks brand new other than the crank case cover which I am going to sand down and repaint it. There are two small cracks on the lower part of the right side fairing from where the bike tipped over and fell onto some rocks but they are hard to see.
The bike only has a little over 2000 miles on it and has a HotBodies Undertail elimination and an Akrapovic Carbon fiber slip-on canister exhaust. The bike is in perfect mechanical condition with all maintainence done by either the dealership or me. Just let me know if you are interested and I can send some pics and we can talk price and such.

after thinking about it ive decided i dont want a katana. sorry. its a good deal though. maybe you should hit up cycletrader?
2002 Yamaha YZF 600R, same motor as the R6 just more comfortable to ride. Was down once in low speed slide. The fairings were replaced or repainted (not perfect)
Its in perfect mechanical shape with a little over 5000 miles on it. Great first bike but my brother is moving to DC and doesnt have a place to park it.
$3800

I know about the power and weight differences but its the same basic motor, it is really a better starter bike and more comfortable to ride over the course of a day.
Not trying to get in an argument or anything but if you read almost any review comparing the R6 and YZF for the beginner or someone who is not a hardcore twisty junkie, they recommend the YZF.

Not preaching or anything but please be careful on the R6. Very very quick for a beginner bike. I've been riding sportbikes since 1997 and since then I've owned 6 of them, so I know a little bit about them.
My list: In 1997 I started out on a 1988 Honda Hurricane CBR600. Got hit by a drunk driver and it crushed the bike. Then a 1994 Honda CBR600. <--Very nice but not much for curves without a huge suspension setup. Then I bought a 1994 Kawi ZX-7. <-- Loved that one, but way down on power for 750cc. Then a 1997 Kawi ZX-7R. <--Probably one of my favorites but it weighed a lot and was about on par with the 97 CBR600. Sold the 7R and bought a 1998 Suzuki TL1000R. I fell in love with the V-Twin motor and the torque. After many mods I dynoed the TLR at 130rwhp, which was pretty solid back then, especially for a V-Twin. I wrecked the TLR at Deal's Gap in 2000. Then in 2001 I broke down and bought the bike of my dreams...a brand new leftover 2000 Ducati 748 with 0 miles, from Dobb's Moto in Memphis, TN. I'm a curve rider and not a drag racer so the 748 was perfect for me. I got no wheelspin in the twisties and could really flop it side to side with ease. Unfortunately, I sold the 748 two weeks ago and now all I have bikewise is a 1955 Harley Davidson 165 single that my grandad gave me. It's just a conversation piece though...top speed about 65mph.
So just be careful. I'm sure if you've been on any of the motorcycle forums you've heard the term "Squid". If not, then just remember: "There are 2 kinds of riders, those that have been down, and those that are going down." Good luck to ya.

yeah i know to be careful. im not trying to kill myself with this thing. ive drove a 04 zx-6r my friend bought and the first time i drove it i scared the hell out of myself and said i wasnt going to get a bike. afterwards i drove it more and i was fine. that was about a month or so ago, since then i text drove an 01 ZX-7R. wasnt too fond of it. a bigger bike, which isnt what im looking for, and the owner ragged it out pretty bad. i finally found this R6 and i plan on just playing it safe for a long time. thanks for the heads up though. its very much appreciated.

The Ol' Hurricane. I still remember the commercial when they came out in 1987...."Even the Ninja fears the Hurricane!"
I was 9 years old.
