Wanted - Raleigh RX7 transmission Mechanic

Well today the car (90 vert) basically died at a stop light. It appears that the transmission is stuck in first gear, even when the shifter is in neutral. Engine runs fine...When I release the clutch though it just dies with a big jolt. It's like it's stuck in gear, won't go and it will kill the engine as if i were dumping the cluth. I'm hoping someone on here can point me in the direction of a reliable, honest and reasonable mechanic in the area who is familiar with RX7 transmissions. I'm also wondering if this has happened to anyone else ... This FC has been a great car up until today.

Thanks !

Keith

I do tranneys but I am backed up .Stop ,do not try to release the clutch ,if it was stuck in first gear then it will pullaway in first .If it jurks and kills the motor then it MAY BE in two gears at one time .If that is correct and you start the motor or push the car and release the clutch you could bust the trans case into several smaller parts . Not that much fun ,but removel of the tranny will be easy with the gears already on the ground .

Thanks for the feedback guys. I ended up taking the car on friday over to a place in Cary . The guy there is very familiar with 2nd gens and even owns one. Looks like we're going to pull the tranny and replace it as that's probably the cheapest alternative at this point. Trying to determine if a T2 would be a good replacement...or if it's even possible. Thinking long term in terms of a possible motor rebuild or T2 swap at some point. Anyway, thanks for the info guys !
