Vote for location of SE region event 07/07/07

I'm trying to help get this thing in motion, so let's get some ideas for locations. Just city and state for now, but if you have a specific location in mind, by all means, put it out there.

We are way behind the ball on getting this planned, so please post a location you think you might be able to help coordinate something.

Thanks,

Ren

OK, sorry it took so long to get the poll up. Anyway, I was generalizing the areas, not the specific cities. Not sure where the tracks and stuff are. I think we should try to keep this as close to the center of the SE region as possible, so as to get the most people to attend. ATL seems like the natural choice to me, but I'm kind of a sucker for coastal towns, so I voted for Savannah.

VIR seems like a really long drive for someone in Miami. That's what we need to keep in mind here: equal access to all (well, as close as possible).

North Fl. would be awesome. But if Ga is gonna be way more convenient, then that would be ok.

If you do pic Tally, I'd be happy to help out (along with a few of the local rotards, I'm sure).

Pertinent info:
We've had a couple large-ish barbecues in the past, and it went well. That time of year there is very little traffic in the area, and we have some nice parks and canopy roads for meeting up or photo shoots.

There's a drag strip and auto-x site about 1.5 hours drive from here, but the closest track is Gainesville, I believe.

I think something simple and cheap (i.e. no cost for admission) would be preferable to having a track day, especially given the short notice. Plus, as I already mentioned, VIR is far from central to the SE region.

I say one more week of voting, and then this project needs to be underway. We'll be at exactly three months for prep time at that point, which is cutting it kind of close.

sand, sun and fun in savannah... take this thread back to the top... i would really like to see more people par-take in the 7-7-07 meeting idea... it doesn't have to be in savannah, but we need more votes to include other places...

Anybody been to the Hutchinson Island track in Savannah? It's open and drivable, but I don't know the legalities of actually racing on it...

It's a fun track though, someone should look into it, especially since you can just drive right onto it.

if we want a lot of people to show, i think we should keep it simple. like a huge barbecue in an organized location (with tables/tents set up etc, someone will have to step up and organize it all), then a cruise around Savannah, then just chill at someplace on the beach (photo op). people dont come to a 7/07/07 RX-7 meet to see a racetrack, they want to see the cars up close, say in a parking lot, etc. but thats just my opinion, im up for a track day if thats what everyone wants

I like the massive barbecue social event idea. I would like to help take charge of this, along with two or three other leaders. No single person needs to coordinate this event alone. I think there should be at least two people who are from the Savannah area to help do most of the planning and decision-making.

Who else wants to help me make this thing happen?

I am also against a track day. A big bbq/car show sounds like a much better plan.

^^^and more fun/memorable for a cool date like 7/7/07. We will have a better turnout for just a bbq, because more people will be able to afford to go.

okay... gonna start drawing up a few ideas for shirts... and someone just PMed me about a food idea. Dayton, PM me and let me know if you are willing to help organize and manage this event. There should probably be about 4 of us who are behind this event's structure, so I definitely need one or two more people to PM me who are interested in helping out.

We definitely need someone asap who can scout out a location and get approval from nearby businesses... (I can give you details on how to schmooze) ...If you own a business, and have lots of parking, then that would be appreciated as well!

Feel free to post ideas, and PM me if you can help out.

I just saw this.. I like Savanna, GA! Great scenic place and great city,... But its not quite central location for some people as 1/2 the surrounding area is water. I personally think if you want to do a BBQ or something, maybe ATL?? Centralized location with tons of stuff to do and cheap enough for people to find a place to stay.
