^^^Loving all the PICs guys, I bet there wasnt anyone riding by that didnt break there necks lol. I personally seen the same 4runner go by three times. Cant wait to see the picks that the old man took of each owner by his machine. I sure do wish Seneca could have came, but the waterpump in his S5 was leaking pretty bad. I just got back in from Devils Courthouse a few minutes ago from watching the meteor shower, and grilling some Ballparks, pretty cool **** and it was clear skies.

Shenandoah. Long story, i'll try to keep it brief. A large portion of what is now The Shenandoah National Park used to be owned by my family (Nicholson). In short, the gov't took possession of the land (by force) to build the park.

Me? naahhh. It didn't happen to me. Although, apparently quite a few people cried as they were forcibly evicted from their homes and made to watch as the government torched the house with everything inside. Leaving them with nothing but each other and the clothes on their backs. Oh well, that which does not kill you serves only to make you stronger.

And by the way, EVERYONE was welcome to enjoy that wonderful place. They were even offered the finest moonshine! You just can't beat that!

^^^ Thats some funny ****, But sorry for your indirect loss Skylance. I dont like Asheville for some reason, even though it was voted #1 City in the SE.
Unfortunatley our government has eminant (sp) domain and can do that to anyone at anytime. However, there must be "just compensation" which I would think your family received despite the horror stories, but then again back then our government was broke and starving because of the depression. However the Blue Ridge Parkway was a means to help establish an economy in the smokey mountains and give jobs to those who otherwise would not have been able to find work. And thankfully so, In my mind its a work of art and was designed by a landscape architect Stanley Abbott instead of an engineer. Anyways, theres 217 miles of the BRP in VA and 252 in NC. Actually, I would love it we could all get together and drive the BRP in our 7s. You couldnt chop a smile off my face with an axe lol, and atleast everyone would get to drive till there hearts content. We will need a suppy vehicle tailing us though, with **** like, coolant, oil, hoses, belts, tools etc lol j/k. Anyone down for a BRP Caravan? I know saturday Allen made mention that he would like to do it again, however I was broken hearted to hear him say "drive the Honda"!

Thanks for the sentiments MazdaJunkie.

Our Government was NOT broke and starving during the Great Depression. Actually, one of the (few) good things to come out of the situation with Shenandoah National Park was the "Civilian Conservation Corps". They were hired by the government to do the conservation work. They are also responsible for the building of Skyline Drive, the various Tunnels, the carving of many trails, the building of the various lodges and inns, etc. So, there was some good to come of it mostly in the way of jobs. However, the end does not justify the mean.

Well, there are loop-holes that the VA and Federal gov't used to get around the "just compensation".

Land Claim

The gov't saw this as an opportunity and claimed that everyone without a land claim in the borders of the newly created park (not only my ancestors - the Corbin family also comes to mind) was "squatting" (living on another's land without permission). Nevermind the fact that my ancestors had settled there LONG before the gov't required "land claim" paperwork. So, there was no "just compensation", only a "get the heck off our new land".

Condemnation

Another loophole that was used extensively was to simply have the properties "condemned", therefore giving the former residents little IF anything at all for their property by simply saying that the residences were unfit for habitation. A condemned property is worth significantly less than it would be if it were "suitable for habitation".

Oh well, what can you do?

And yes, driving all of it end-to-end would be fun!

Well, It is obvious that there is interest. I can fell myself getting excited like when I stumbled upon tha DGRR by chance. I am without a doubt down for this, I have always wanted to drive the whole BRP. And if I could do it with a great bunch of 7 owners then who could ask for more? Honestly I believe it would be more fun than going back to Deals Gap this fall.

LOLX2 PICs thread hijack, Good to see ya around these parts Gianni. How was the wedding? sure wish you could have joined us, but we need another
kickass event before it gets freakin cold. Also its true that anyone close to the BRP could participate even if they just hooked up with us for a while. BRP is 469 miles long.
