cool right!!!?

Hey, cool. I knew that was coming, but didn't know it was up. I briefly drove the car a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have enough seat time to really develop an opinion on the Turbosmart products, but they seem to work well enough. The weirdest thing for me is that the dip in the boost pattern is gone and is now flat all the way across. I kept getting to redline sooner than I thought I would because I was waiting for the surging feeling of the stock setup.

Ive got a black aluminum n/a fc hood I need to get rid of. Free to anyone who can come get it. Also a handful of fc intercoolers and oil coolers, same deal. Trying to clear a little extra space.

Ive got 2 or 3 fc ones, an fd one(single, not the R1/2 duals) and one fb air to oil that I dont plan on giving away, but certainly will let it go for the right price.

Ive got a lot of other stuff too, but I havent gone through it all.

The single FD one, could you add another from an R1 to make a dual? I would just need the coolers and no fittings.

IIRC, the FD were small almost squarish ones, correct? I if I were to go FD then I would route it before the brake coolers then.

Yes, it is the smallish square one. I believe the cooler was the same, but the R1/2 had another cooler and a completely different line set.

mazdaspeed- i knew i bought a flex fuel vehicle for some reason!!! has anyone determined the advantages or disadvantages of running e85? other than cooling properties and worse mpg??? does it give a better burn or yeild any hire hp or anything possitive like that??? just curious...

How about 105 octane and 10% cheaper than 87 gas. And a 15-20% bump in power available just from switching to ethanol. And you dont need to run an IC on turbo cars. Do I need to go on?

I was talking numbers with someone and we came to the conclusion that a PP 13b running a gt42 would make 800 whp at around 27 psi on ethanol... And the intake temps would be below freezing without an IC....

Do you have any data to prove that IAT number?

what the hell do you need to swap to E85? and it that **** fo real?
In the Gas refining business, it costs nothing to make the stuff. I wont go work at an ethanlo plant because they only pay around 35$ an hour, as opposed to 50-60$ an hour for fossil fuel crude oil refineres

I dont, but the person I was discussing it with had a program that gave him those numbers. Given the sheer amount of ethanol required to make that hp, I dont think its unrealistic. It would take either an OEM's engine design software, or real world testing to validate it though.

Our discussion was based on educated guesses and plenty of "if's." By no means concrete numbers, but certainly reasonable. 800 whp isnt too far off when starting with a motor that will do 300 whp all motor on pump gas, and then throwing 25+ psi on it with a huge turbo.

Ian, on a rotary, you will see a pretty dramatic drop in gas mileage, like 30%. On a piston engine, you can raise the compression ratio to compensate, and get back to close to where gas is. Even flex fuel vehicles have to compromise the CR to still be able to run gas, and gas mileage suffers when running ethanol. But the advantages come out in turbo cars. Ethanol evaporates quickly, and dramatically reduces the intake temps. Look at how many alcohol drinking drag cars dont run intercoolers, and still run crazy high boost. Also, E85 has an octane between 100 and 105. Perfect for higher boost.

While I agree that it would be easily capable of supporting big HP numbers (due to the octane rating) I don't agree that it has the same cooling ability as a alcohol.

I have a good friend with a mechanically injected alky motor, and it is so cold that the blower hat FREEZES in 100+ degree heat....I have never seen a car on E85 do that.

I am going to see what I can find tho...if it does cool like that, I would be amazed.

The ethanol in E85 is very similar to the methanol race cars have been running for ages. Ill have to dig out some old chemistry books to be more specific, but I expect the main difference is going to be how refined it is, and the octane rating.

E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gas. The gas lubricates all of the moving parts, so you dont have all of the nasty side effects that goes with running straight methanol. And I suspect, just from the fact its available as a fuel for production cars, it doesnt have the caking problem of methanol when left in the car.
