NC RotorSports Racing

Has anybody dealt with RotorSports out of Kannapolis, NC recently? They put my last engine in, but that's been about 20 years ago, and it seemed like I heard the owner went through some life issues at one point. Finally need a new engine again but don't have time to do it myself and don't know where to take it anymore.

Bryan is super busy which is why I'm looking for anyone else who works on FC race cars in the area. I recently bought a 1990 ITS racecar and am looking for any race shop in the Carolinas. The other guy in Rock Hill retired. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Tim

Couple of suggestions for you.
1. Contact / email someone at your local SCCA or NASA region and ask for names of local-ish shops in the region. Or ask them if you can speak with other members that run RX7s in your region.
2. Go to the next NASA or SCCA race and talk to the racers and shops that are in attendance.
3. If it doesn't need rotary specific work (like corner balance, suspension work, safety gear etc), consider an non-rotary shop.
4. Create a NEW thread with what you need in the race section or FC section. I.e. Don't post to the FAQ thread that hasn't had a response in years...

I had a very, very negative experience with rotorsports.. like really bad.. he realized i wasnt very strict on my budget and essentially every other day while my 13b rew was supposedly being built, he would call and inform me of things like " oh did you know there is a cooling jacket mod i can do that makes the engine much less likely to experience heat related issues? i can do it while im in the stage of building might as well.." or "hey you dont want factory apex seals, get these 3mm ceramic ones they are much stronger" yada yada i was excited however when i picked the fd up it was quick and yes i was excited to have it finally rebuild, from the get go it was misfiring under full throttle anything above 4000 rpm, i said why is it acting like that? Bryan: "Acting like what?" Proceeds to lay it to the floor again.. things like this in cars make me cringe like nail on a chalkboard. Long story short i got less than 1500 miles on the motor then lost compression. I found raphael at 3face i told him my story and he handed me a drink and said have a seat. And he broke down my engine right in front of me and guess what.. nothing claimed to be done internally was actually done. It was basically a used motor that had been pressure washed and cleaned on the exterior. Raph built me a fresh motor with an aggressive streetport within a couple days put it in and never had an issue.. beat on it for 5 years then let her go. I have no reason to have an issue with the rotorsports guy dont know anyone he knows we live states away and the guy boofoo'd me.. raphael is like a rotor god. Anyways might get sued or cancelled but always stand for whats true and fk the bs. This happened about 8 years ago..

3face racing.. conyers, ga i believe. Google maps has the number listed. Ask for Raphael.
He put together the 6 port turbo/full bridge FC im currently in have about 20k on the engine running strong. Ive seen him build/work on/tune many 20b /13b setups. Really cool guy and very reasonable with prices.. not to mention every time ive ever been hes got good food on the grill lol.

I know this is an old thread..I need my 85 SE engine rebuilt or so I am told. I got est from Rotor sports ( brian) and many people recommend him. But the negative response about him gives me second thoughts. Any one have someone in surrounding area of Winston salem NC? I really need my car check fully ...do I need a rebuild or can it be revived?

68,000 mile se, sat 22 years under cover. I redid the gas tank, new. gas. The car get fuel and spark. The car was not abused. I had a rotary compression test and it did not register at all on any testing spot. NOTHING?? Is that ODD??

any help/suggestions/ rotary mechanic would be appreciated..

Sorry about the delayed response.. Since this incident occurred i have used raphaels services and have had not had a reason to look elsewhere. I am thankful i found out about his shop as over the years he has taught me enough to do most things myself.. im trying to not sound like an advertisement here.. i just feel that technicians like this are a dying breed. Any other general questions, ill try my best to help a fellow seven owner out

Have always had good experiences with Bryan at rotorsports. He rebuilt my motor among other things in '17 and I've taken my car back to him on a couple other occasions for unrelated issues/service. I second guessed him at times, but his work and suggestions always worked out in the end. @Djseto had a very complicated and unique recurring situation that could be blamed on multiple factors. Im not paid or endorsed by or even a fanboi of Rotorsports or Bryan, just stating he has always been straight up and has done good work for me. The work he did was not cheap, but was done and delivered on schedule or earlier every time. This cannot be said about the majority of rotary shops in the US today.

Come to think of it.. I had made a post about the whole incident back when it happened.. I remember clearly one of his buddies who I met while I was picking the car up, saying I was full of it because I told him how happy I was to finally be picking up the car.. well I was happy, for about the first 15 mins until reality set in. And the engine didn't let go for about 400 miles.

Here's the thing. I know it was with this account and since I replied to this thread it got me wanting to re read the posts i made and the responses.. THEY ARE GONE. What in the hell? So I'm not trying to throw accusations but how is it that it was deleted? Maybe Bryan knows one of the admins? I dunno but once I realized that I started steaming. People who do sht like this to their customers absolutely need to be brought to light and anyone who enables and protects crooks who do this are scummy in my opinion. Hmm..
