FL Recommend homeowner's insurance?

Can someone please recommend good insurance companies to get a quote with? Who do you have? I have Esurance for the car, but they don't do houses in Florida. And I had State Farm before, they were pretty cheap.

I have USAA but you have to be a member. I have them for my house and car. Group deal FTW.

USAA is truely wonderful for insurance. They discontinued our homeowners insurance, now that we do not reside in the home. We go with Universal of North America now, fairly good prices.

We've been with both USAA and GEICO for car insurance. Just switched back to USAA and saving about $800 / year.

Thanks for the input. Since 3 of you have mentioned this USAA, is it only available to families of military personnel? I was thinking more along the lines of State Farm / Allstate or the like, for regular people...

good luck it really depends where you are in florida. In this area there are not to many companies writing policies. But your best bet is allstate, state farm makes you have multiple policies with them before they will write a homeowners policy. The list of companies that write policies in florida is getting small.

although state farm no longer writes policies if you have your cars insured through state farm they will assist in getting you a policy with Citizens. Citizens is backed by the State (i believe) so there should not be any chance of them going belly up in case of a storm. good luck

I just had to change my insurance over because Travelers dropped Florida. I had Geeko for car, and they sub'd out my home ins.

Allstate saved me almost $1k a year on house ins, and my car ins was about $30 less a month. I just got married so I changed over the wife to my policy and now my ins. cost is $5 more for Allstate than without her for Geeko.

Allstate does a lot of phone harassment though. They try to have you answer phone questionnaires which is really just a BS intro for some telemarketing scam. I just don't answer any 800 # incoming calls, and when they do catch me off guard I tell them I'm not interested.
