Questions about Florida

I was recently offered a job in Homestead Fl. My question is do they have emissions b/c we dont have it here in SC and it would cost too much to get the FD to pass. My other question to the people that live in that area do you like it? Thanks in advance for the info.

I live and work in Homestead, FL. I hope the job offer is real good because I would LOVE to live in SC instead. Homestead is a lot of low class people and crime. The traffic is so so, more idiot illegal drivers than anything else. If you have to go to the city, you get the same crap *** traffic as everyone else. Homestead is great for fishing, lots of water around / access to the Keys. There is a lot of farming / agriculture but mostly the place is overrun by illegal aliens and section 8 people. Growing up is Homestead had been just excellent for me. Good luck with you job, and look forward to seeing you.

Problem I see with homestead is there is nothing to do...Unless u like driving 30 minutes to coral gables or all the way to miami beach you will be bored out of your mind.

Crime is not that bad....unless you live in the naranja area. You only have to worry about crime in the north miami area. Try to find an older house or apartment. The newer houses are built with no regard to hurricanes...well just the min to pass requirements dade county requirements. You can find many foreclosed houses and apartments are everywhere. Plan to pay at the very least 650 a month if your lucky in a decent area.

Car theif is low in regards to normal everyday cars...but hooked up cars are HOT so get an alarm if you don't have one...it will be your best investment. Getting rx7 parts locally is a PITA...well unless you have a click of rx7 friends here. Point blank people can not drive. Expect people to run the light @ the very last minute and you are always driving for others constantly avoiding them.

The problem is a lot of people come to the state with no driving experience or as said illegals driving and is compounded by poor traffic light timing IMO. Expect to see 2 or 3+ lights within a couple feet between each other.

Yea here in Florida if it shoots flames and kills the grass up to 30 feet away its still A-ok.
This state is pretty laid back on whats allowed on the road period.

i have had to experience Homestead since December of last year since i have been working down there building a shopping center and i have to agree with Roland's (Torque South) description.

I must add if you like mexican food.............its the place to live becasue there are some authentic Mexican restaurants.

There is good and bad... but Homestead has ALWAYS been mostly ghetto, and now the population has tripled so you do the math... definitely great fishing and Mexican food, plus access to Keys as mentioned (both kind). I think the overused cliche "dirty south" was invented for this town.

The area I would be working in is around the speedway. I have found a couple of condos for $1000 a month west of the speedway but south of the turnpike. I guess that would be a decent area due to the rent price. Thanks for all the info, I may have to fly down first to see how bad it is. Oh the drivers suck up here too and quit a few illegals.

Interesting, the speedway is literally my backyard. Not a bad place but I recommend at least one shotgun and one handgun for the house and I hope you don't mind the nascar soundtrack on weekends. It's not the worst place in the world I suppose. Good luck with the move and job.
