Question for TN ppl

The company I worked for just decided to relocate to TN. Our temporary office will be setup in downtown Nashville, then eventually Franklin.

How are the roads around there?
How are the cops around there?
How are smog laws in TN? - I imagine it can't be as bad as California haha.

Anything else I should know before moving over there?

You're company wouldn't be Nissan would it?

Anyway, if you live in any of the surrounding counties that border Davidson Co (Nashville) then you have to geet smogged. There is no visual except for cats. So I guess it is more lax than California.

The roads are pretty smooth and curve are everywhere. The cops are cops. Everywhere I have been they are the same, but they tend to not pick on you unless you deserve it.

We have alot of knowledgable people her in Middle Tennessee (rotorbrain, Fire85GSLSE, Garfinkle, me ahem).

Also, its cheap as **** to live here!

Well come on over, you will like it here, as a good friend of mine just moved here from Pasadena and loves it here.
Well, if you move to Spring Hill near where I live, it will take you 20-25 mins to get to where the HQ will be in Fraklin. And about 45 mins to get to the bellsouth building in Nashville. The county I live in does not have emissions and is awesome. We have the interstate right here and my wife gets to the nissan plant in 35 mins from our house so it is pretty easy where we live. As for the cops well most of them know me as I am a Firefighter in Franklin and Spring Hill.

Check your pm and check out the TN rotary club web site.

Nameless,

I think you were the one who told me about the RX7club back in 2001.. I bought my Apexi N1 Duals from you.. Is it correct??

Anyhow, I lived in Nashville most of my teen life and my family still lives here. Its a great town w/ton of people moving here from East and West coast (entertainment reasons). Compare to lala land, well, weather isn't as great but night life I think is better than LA (things are open ALOT later than LA). I thought LA was fun if you know the right people.. I had some friends in LA, in the movie business and they took me out like the movie star... but other than that, it kind of sucked and I think Nashville is better!

Far as the road and stuff.. TN has one of the nicest road in the country.. What I mean is that the interstates are smooth and roads are well taken care of. KY sucks, AL most part sucks also. (only better quality roads I've been on is in FL).

Like DJ pointed out, there are ton of great rotary guys in Middle TN area. I come up here quite often due to family and friends. I'm acturally in Nashville right now (just driving thru and leaving early tomorrow morning)!

When you move to Nashvegas, drop me a PM. We'll all get together at Gar's or something.

Oh, I see how it is, a man builds you an engine dirt cheap and you can't even make mention of his name. That's alright though, I'll remember you in your next "time of need". I'll say "get Paul or Chad to do it, you know, those knowledgeable guys".

Thanks for all the replies everyone. I appreciate the information. Seems like I can finally escape the smog-***** in California.

djmtsu: Yes, I work for Nissan =)

Fire85GSLSE: Thanks for the PM. Does your wife work at the plant for Nissan? You seem to know an awful lot haha. Bellsouth is where we will be initially, so I was thinking of getting a place (a loft?) in downtown... but still not sure.

Phil: Yea thats me =) Pretty good memory! I will definitely contact you.

RR: I already know about you dont worry.... I was eyeing the T2 you had for sale, too bad the move wont take place until June/July (I think).

Well, I know alot of people, and have a way about knowing whats going on around me. Being a firefighter in Franklin kept me up to date on the info about the Nissan site before my wife knew about it at work. She is a programmer (IT specialist) over at Nissan. A few other friends that work at Bellsouth didn't know your company was coming in there till it was annouced. Also having realtors on my side also helps me get in with the up and up.
Well as for a loft in downtown, I would say that is cool. If you want to make money the sooner you buy a home or property down here the more money you will make if you can do the home and a loft for a year or two.
Holla at me sometime and we can talk about it.
And yes, we do have alot of rotary people in TN. Well, I have over 50 names that are on the TN Rotary database.
Also we have a local rotary guy that owns a shop with a dyno if you need the dyno for tuning. There is a good mixture of 1st, 2nd ,and 3rd gens here so you will fit right in.

Well the benifits are awesome knowing your helping someone in there time of need. Sometimes I like to think how many people we saved over the 10 years I have been doing this job from death or serious injury. It really is nice when you get the out of the blue phone calls. I have a couple that live down the road from me that I did not know till one day coming home from Home depot a wreck happened in front of me. Well I pulled over and got out to help. There was only one person hurt but she hit the windsheild pretty hard as it showed on her forehead and the windsheild. I held C-spine on here and had a bystandard hold pressure on her cut for me. The fd and ems got there we loaded her and they took her off to the hospital. The whole time I was holding c-spine on here she was complaining to me and wanted out of the car. I kept on telling her no as it might cause her problems. I kept thinking man she complains alot.
Well a week later I had the mayor call me and tell me thanks and that they (that couple) want to meet with me again as once she was in the hospital the doctor told her she was very close to being paralyzed from the neck down. Guess he saw something on the xray that could have been worse if she would have got out of the car and walked around. Well we met and we still touch base every so often.
She tells my daughter that I am the angel sent to help her.

Things like that make it all worth it.
I still volunteer with my local department but with the full time department, my daughter, school, and the regular home chores I don't get to do much.
As for time, it all is mainly up to you and your department.
I say do it and get all the training you can. Also if you ever get out of it keep up your medical training to keep current. That looks good on paper no matter what job you get!

Well sorry for the novel but wanted to get the point across. Just remember, most of the time the FD is called out is when people have no one else that can help and it also might mean the difference between life and death. So knowing your making a difference even if it was just one person you helped then you quit you did make a difference.

By the way - to all the FD, PD, and EMS people readig this. Keep up the good job.
With out people like you what would people do?

we really need to come up with codenames for the other paul and myself. . . i NEVER know if you guys are talking about me or not!! ive even had people ask me about stuff that i "apparently" have and then i give them a funny face. hahahaa.

ill go by. . . megatron or something. . . or even cool daddy mcfresh. . .

nameless, its really not that bad out here. . . ive never been to california. . . and i guess that means i have no say. . . hahaha, but everyone i meet from out of state (from the western area) talks about how pretty it is out here and how the roads entice them to DRIVE. . . and yeah, its pretty easy to get beyond the emissions *****. hehe, i even went through the other day (trying to pass. . . just seeing what it would do really) w/o a cat. . . . PASSED the visual inspection. the guy didnt even look on the correct side of the vehicle. too funny.

and yes, having kevin landers (rotary resurrection) in the area is a GREAT benefit. hes steadily proven himself as a great engine builder over the years. . . were lucky to have that in tennessee, as we just dont have that much as far as rotary shops out here.

paul

ps. . . chad, who is this rotary guy with a dyno? never heard of him. . .

There is a code name already, Big Paul and Lil Paul.
As for the dyno man you should know him (Dan) as he has been around a bit and scca's his 3rd gen. The performance garage was in Nashville Tn but now is in Symrna. Well now he has stepped into 1st gens also. Should be interesting to see what he does with it.

Just to clarify, I own part of the building, not the dyno. Chris (Performance Garage) and Jerry (VetteSport) are the other partners in the building. We are pretty setup, alignment rack, 2-2 post lifts, 2-4 post lifts and the in ground dyno. Not a bad place to hang out .
