yeah I just contacted them actually and they're not that far from where the car is so my plan is to have it transported from the seller to kilo racing and then to my house in Wisconsin
For engine rebuild Kilo or Petit racing. Got drag racing Kilo hands down. For auto cross and road course Pettit racing. For street car I use both. I like Kilos motors and running but I also like Pettit for heat management and suspension. I trust both.
My experience
I owned my fd since 98 in Orlando and have been taking for a ride more than once by shading Fl rotary shops. My recommendations are as follows. Pettit racing for over all care, suspension, brakes and twin turbo setup. Cam is a road race guy and is very good. Now with that said Kilo is the man when it comes to engine build, tunning and single turbo setups. Kilo is a drag race guy. I alternate from Cam at Petit and Jesus from Kilo. I trust no one else with my car period. Both these guys arent cheap but with some cheap mechanics you will spend more in the long run. Trust me i have been down that road. Feel free to contact me. I hate when rptary guys get taken by shady mechanics
Haven't personally heard of anyone good in South Florida. I'd like to know as well. I've personally had 2 bad experiences at Pettit.

Classic Mazda
1983 N Semoran Blvd,
Orlando, FL 32807
I know, most of us are against going to dealer service centers, I am typically among that group. But these guys go against every dealer service center stereotype that I know of. Not to mention a bunch of them are huge rotary guys and will go out of their way to take care of us enthusiasts. They even host meets on occasion.

Since i no longer can work at the dealers(went back to being a master tech for FCA/Stellantis until 2 years ago) i'm doing repairs in my spare time again and am located almost midway between Tampa and Orlando off I4, formerly known as Rotary Evolution from California>Las Vegas. I'm partially disabled now with a spinal condition(C7 and T1 discs are compressing my spinal cord) so i can mostly only do things that require minimal heavy lifting or awkward working angles on my back. A bit slower but not completely broken yet.
Since i'm now unemployed my free time is basically anytime i'm not fixing things around my house, i do have lots of personal projects though but income is more important than they are.
My knowledge is a bit dusty after not working on rotaries every day for the last 10 years but not totally forgotten.
I'd prefer small projects and repairs but i do still have many many engines worth of parts as well, so i may be building remans in the near future to sell off my remaining inventory(mostly S4 turbo and non turbo engines).
for reference i ran my rotary only shop for roughly 12 years, built about 400 engines and worked on thousands of NSU/REPU/2/3/SA22/FB/S4/S5/FD/Cosmo20B/RX8. i've had my hands on just about every form of rotary anything there ever was, including building harnesses, EMS and tuned them on the street and on rollers. however i really do not feel confident in my tuning ability anymore after a decade away from the rainbow checkerboard bingo boxes.
i'd also like to sway away from being the cheapest option, because that sometimes made me feel like my work was compromised by gving it away as the cheapest specialist around. these cars are classics now and deserve some respect for surviving 30+ years of abuse and neglect.

Full detail automotive Tampa is amazing.
I have been around the block a couple of times with a few shops in the Pacific Northwest, getting a rebuilt engine. I moved down to Tampa, and the FD had some issues and I was worried about getting played again and paying twice for everything. I brought her in to Full Auto Detail, facing major boost problems, a starter electrical issue, and others. They performed comprehensive diagnostics, including compression tests, smoke and boost leak assessments, and full inspections. They repaired several issues and clearly identified the blown primary turbo. Their communication is very transparent, and they provide honest advice backed by expertise in rotaries. I haven't ever been able to start the car with one key turn even after replacing the starter twice in the past. Now it turns over on the first try every time. I'm returning with some fresh rebuilt turbos, some bolt-ons, and a tune! If you want an honest shop in this crazy industry, this is it. Highly recommend anyone that wants there car to be taken off to visit Full Automotive detail in Tampa. If you have been trying to find a great shop this is the one.
