Need mechanic in Raleigh, NC

I need someone that can repair my 88 Anniversary Edition Rx-7. It ran fine about 4 years ago. I went to sell it and the Mazda dealership said the compression was low and the seals on the rotors needed to be replaced. Since then it has sat in my garage. For the last 6 months I started to brake down the engine to replace the seals but we are now moving into an apartment and I need to pay someone to finish what I have started. Is anyone available to do it and if not does anyone know anyone that can.

I just want to get it back up and running so I can drive it again. Maybe do a few mods to it if it would’t be to expensive.

Thanks!

Yes, I think there is someone that can help you. We have a guy in the Raleigh Rotary Drive-In by the name of Jesse. He works full time as a mechanic and part time out at Sports and Compacts near the NC State Fair Grounds. He is the best rotary guy in Raleigh. There area also a couple of other guys in the group that have done extensive work on their engines but they're FD owners. They might be willing to advise you on your rebuild. We'll have the next RRDI on November 12, if you want to comeout and meet so of the guys and see what you can work out with them to take over the rebuild or get some technical help.

There is also Bruce Turrentine's shop in east Raleigh and he is a rotary engine rebuilder. He doesn't do the install and removal, but if you bring your engine and parts to him he will rebuild it. He is the guy that made the rotary engine rebuilding video. I don't know what he charges to do a complete rebuild but you can check him out at www.rotaryaviation.com/custom_mazda_engines.html

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Bert. I would love to finish it myself but I don't have a spot anymore since we are moving into the apartment. I talked with Carl down at Sports and Compacts and he told me that they didn't have the equipment to rebuild a RX-7 engine. I am not sure what that means. He made it sound like you needed thousands of dollars worth of equipment to rebuild the Rotary Engines. Do you think I should try to contact Jesse instead? Carl refereed me to a guy in Charlotte. I find it hard to believe there is not a mechanic that could do it around here.

I will contact Bruce and see if he has the time or knows anyone else that could do it.

Thanks for the help and I will try to come out in November.

I'm in Durham and I do rebuilds. Actually, my shop is in Greensboro but I have a truck and trailer so taking your engine and/or car out there for the job is no big deal.

I'd be happy to look over what you've got, give you an estimate, and make some recommendations, even if it turns out I can't do the job.

PM me or email me at mike AT rotarymike DOT com and we'll see what we can figure out.
