Need help with tire size on two cars

I have a 1984 gls-se. (track car) which I bought 16x8 wheels for it but didn’t know what would be the best size tires on that size

Also a 1987 turbo 2.(just for driving on the weekend car) Which am looking at 17x8.5 wheels for but not sure what size tires I could fit

Are you going with the largest diameter or width?

For the fb 16x8 you will need coilovers in the front and probably, maybe still need to roll the fenders. A 205 tire is about the right size for that width but you could go wider but it will depend on the offset and other clearance issues you may run into.

I would go with a smaller wheel on the FB. Perhaps 15x7, unless you have brake upgrades that won't clear. I ran 14x7 with 205/55 Toyo RA1's on stock suspension and never had an issue. I could have gone wider, but at ~100WHP you're going to see diminishing returns as the increased friction slows the car. 16x8's are a comfortable size for the FC. 17's also work well, and could get you a little better turn-in feel. I wouldn't go bigger than 17.

What tracks will you be running?
