NCMazda 4th Annual RBQ @ VIR, Saturday, October 29th

Fellow rotorheads and Mazdaphiles...

Come and join us at VIR in October for the traditional MSCCNC annual RBQ. Enjoy spectating a SCCA race, talking to your fellow Mazda owners, checking out street and race cars (remember, Mazdas are one of the most popular production cars to race), and enjoying fine dining for dinner.

Go here for details and to sign up:
http://www.msccnc.org/events/rbq05/

Registration closes midnight on Friday October 21st!
(as of now, we'll try to extend it)

Admission to a SCCA spectator event (normally $10) is FREE through our sign up form.

1) Food - We are going to cater (well, club members are going to cook). $10 a head will cover a reasonably nice meal made by club members. This will also include an entry for a raffle of some official Mazda merchandise, number and type of prizes determined by number of folks attending the function. I am thinking that we will probably give out some Mazda T-Shirts, license plate frames, and an RX-8 die cast if enough folks show up.

2) Carpools/caravans - officially, probably going to have one from Durham. We will let folks know our departure time and place so they can join in and possibly meet us at NC-86 northbound for those who would rather take the scenic route coming from points to the East (instead of 29 in Greensboro) or West.

3) Parade Laps - scheduled for lunchtime, $5 (charged by SCCA, goes to charity)

4) Amenities - we should have at least 2 EZ-Ups. Bring your own chair. We don't know where we are going to be stationed at VIR as of yet.

5) T-Shirts - we are planning on making up a nice commorative T-shirt for the event. Artwork is in progress (most likely will be a version of the flyer on a shirt with the club logo). We are going to order them in bulk to save on shipping, we need at least 10 orders. The signup form is where you will indicate interest in this. $15

Contact me for more information via this web form:
http://www.ncmazda.com/email/compose.php?who=Ashraf

I'll try to check this thread but we have a fairly busy week preparing for this event, so send questions via the contact form.

...and...no, I won't poke fun at your brake fluid, unless you try to get it past tech at at THSCC Track event.

Come get to know the gentle side of MSCCNC. We aren't as bad as some folks would like to make us out to be. Betcha we will prove you wrong.

By the way- some signifcant others are scheduled to attend, in case you were wondering if you might bring yours along - two of which have done high performance driving and could probably help talk yours into giving it a try given how easily they found it!

Kindest regards,
Ashraf Farrag
NCMazda/Mazda Sports Car Club of North Carolina (since 1998)

Event schedule posted at the above event page link. Menu is in progress and will be posted soon.

We have 15 people registered so far. Three couples that I definitely know, maybe two more which are unconfirmed.

Guess what? Most of the folks registered own/drive RX-7's...but only one registrant from here. I have invited the Triangle Miata Roadsters and the Miatapower (Turbo/Super/Bigblock) guys and they are saying they could easily overrun the event.

Surely you want to have Wankel power in the majority?

So much to do, so little time. Next update probably this Thursday.

Thanks for the invite Ashraf. If I can get off that Saturday I'll be there and will try and get more of the RRDI people to join in. BTW, is this posted on the RX-8 Club also?

Greg,

Yessirree. We have someone who posted there (he used to own a FC and then a Miata for a few years). Thanks for checking up on that for us.

Guys - if you know locals that are "offline" (no e-mail, just phone) that want to come, register on their behalves, put info in the comments field to that effect (use your e-mail address so someone gets notified of event info as we get closer to next weekend).

Feel free to spread the word around to other Mazda owners and forums who are interested. The "other" RX-7 forum, etc...but if you post elsewhere, please leave me a cookie crumb here of the thread's URL...

Well, the count is up to 23 as of today - this is gonna be fun!

A reminder for those of you who haven't signed up yet - here is what you'll be getting:

0) Admission price included!

1) Catered lunch

2) Parade laps on the full course

3) Some great racing with qualifying during the day followed by a 1-1/2 hour ECR race that afternoon!

4) And let's not forget, lots of rotory-power vehicles, both on the track and off :-)

See http://www.ncrscca.com/drivers.htm for the days race schedule.

Bring some chairs and enjoy the fine fall weather.

Hmmm... I would like to go to this but I am still waiting on an oil cooler line to arrive in the mail. Should I go ahead and register anyway? The 10 bucks, do we pay that at the event?

Yes. We trust you. The only catch is that we can't be too obvious about the payment for food at the track. The company that really caters at VIR can be, ummm, @$$h0le$.

I believe that dinner will be sometime around 6-6:30pm or so...Check the schedule for the RBQ at the website. I'm pretty sure that Ashraf put it on there.

There are some updates to the site - mostly posting the schedule.

Also, we have extended registration to midnight of this Thursday. One catch - we have 54 tickets total. Unless we have all 54 accounted for by Tuesday or so, we probably won't be able to get more tickets, so either we get a lot of registrations in the next two to three days or the event is going to be capped at 54 (not counting 2 individuals on the signup list who are racing/crew, so a total of 56 registrations on our website will be the maximum unless ).

We will send mass e-mail to everyone registered on Friday with final details.

We figure that dinner will start around 6pm.

To re-emphasize:
* No fees to be paid to VIR/SCCA officials. Admission is free.
* Fees for dinner/T-shirts (hopefully we can get them produced quickly enough) to be paid discreetly at dinner or to club officer if for a shirt and you are leaving before dinner.
* Parade laps are $5, paid to SCCA, all proceeds go to charity.
* Registration is extended for a few more days but we have a limited number of tickets!
* T-Shirt design will be similar to the flyer image posted at the top of this thread with some minor changes (probably move the club logo to the "front pocket")
* E-mail will be circulated to those registered with details and caravan information

I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone, seeing some Mazdas, and hopefully our preparations will go well for an outstanding event this coming weekend.

Regards,
--Ashraf

As of 1:00pm on 10/25 There are 37 people signed up so far, so lets crank it up. We have more tickets and would love to have a lot more Mazda Sports Cars show up to make it a great day.

Have you signed up?

See you at VIR on Saturday!

Hey RRDI type people and anyone else that is going lets figure out a game plan. I know Jason is in for a caravan and Doug/Beth and Gary from the RX-8 club. What about Perky and David? Also, looks like some of the guys from the MSCCNC are going to leave Durham around 11am and caravan up there. So, we could maybe meet up with them or do our Cracker Barrel meet and eat, fill up and take a drive over the river and thru the woods? How about some more details from you guys in the MSCCNC about what you're doing that morning, maybe we could all meet somewhere for a late breakfast and make a road trip. Anyway, thought I'd toss it out, now.....discuss!

If anyone is interested in a nice drive up to VIR, I'm sure that you know about NC-119, but have you tried NC-62? Plenty of nice scenery, good twisties (some marked at 35 MPH with yellow "warning signs), and typically little traffic. I pick up NC-62 by taking NC-49 north(?) out of Haw River.

NC-62 will bring you into Milton at the traffic light in town. Take a right at the light, cross the bridge, and take your first left (hairpin turn) to get to VIR. Oh yeah, you can follow the signs, too.

I'm still debating on whether or not I want to bring my 7... cuz since she's my daily, I don't think I can risk something going wrong this time around.

Besides, this is the last fun event before David goes on deployment... so I think we're going to take his SRT-4.

I like the idea of meeting up somewhere. Just keep me posted about when/where/etc.

Thanks for join guys, it will be a fun event. For those who haven't sign up on the website, time is running out.....need to move quickly. I believe MSCCNC team will send out a final schedule/plan on Friday via email to whomever is in the register list.

I plan to bring my FD there on Saturday. Me and my friend will leave from Cary after lunch so if anyone want to meet up or join from Cary, we can set up a time and place. Let me know or send me a email: riceman1998@yahoo.com

Hi guys...

Updated the event website with info/pics of the T-shirts. I will have the tickets tonight for distribution at the event.

T-shirts orders are closed and they are in production and will arrive at the track. We may be able to get another run of shirts for you if interested and I ordered a couple of extras for those who may want one after seeing one in person.

Everything else is pretty much setup. I will leave registration open until Friday night since I will have the tickets tonight! After that, I will post a phone # if you are interested in dropping by on the day of since it looks like we still have some tickets left over (about 12 are left). If you don't make the caravan, we will hopefully be able to leave them for you at the gate, I will know about this on Friday (again, sorry for the late notice on all of this, it's about as good as we can do given the information I can get).

How does this sound for caravan arrangements - I'm trying to do my best to accomodate everyone, so I'm somewhat open to suggestions if need be:

I will meet anyone who is interested, at our regular meeting spot at NC 54/NC 55 (directions are on our website) to pick up folks coming from Raleigh and we will take the Durham Freeway to NC 86 to NC 119 to VIR.

We can probably setup a 5 minute ad-hoc stop along the way to pick up the other stragglers from points west of RTP (Burlington/Greensboro/Charlotte). We would want be on the road by 11a.m.

Regarding late breakfast - there is a nice restaurant nearby that was highly recommended to me for breakfast that you could go to (I've got too much to do that morning to join you) - I can't remember the name, but I can give you directions if you are interested. It's basically the next shopping center over on NC 55 and there's also a Golden Corral right down the road as well.

If no objections or noteable need for changes, that's the game plan we are going with.

Best regards,
--Ashraf

We have decided to move the departure time up a notch - arrive 10:30 am and leave at 10:45am so that we will get to VIR right at noon, so hopefully folks can catch some parade laps.

I have to announce this to a few other groups, so I think that we are fairly firm on this now. Website will be updated with full info later tonight and I'll probably do an e-mail blitz just to make sure that everyone is fully aware of what we are doing.

Count us in! Can't wait... any idea what the weather is like?

Doug wants to know if that is 8:30 eastern standard time or 8:30 Greg Stamper time?
