NASA track event at Road Atlanta - March 18th and 19th

NASA is having a track event at Road Atlanta on Saturday (18th) and Sunday (19th) of March. There are a number of guys of the RX-8 club that have already signed up and I signed up yesterday. Just throwing it out there for those interested in tracking the car in a controlled environment.

do you have any contact info on for the people running this event? I'm new to the area - used to do a lot of track days at Gingerman and Road America and have been looking for a group to go with at Road Atlanta because I'm only 1/2 hour away from there. Need to iron out the kinks in new engine/turbos in my FD.

Tom,

Try www.nasa-southeast.com - the 2006 schedule is on the home page.

For more info on the organization www.nasaproracing.com

Look for info on HPDE - High Performance Driver Education, unless you're a licensed racer already. You do have to join to participate, but it's arranged so you can do it all online. I signed up last year and took my FD to Road Atlanta last March, and I'm planning on doing it again this year (see you there, Tim If you haven't driven at Road Atlanta, I can tell you it is well worth the price.

Did some emailing back and forth with nasa, seems like it would be worthwhile & something along the lines of the drivers schools BMWCCA used to have at Road America. Do you guys know any other people that do track days with just a few run groups? The Nasa people said there would probably be 3) 20-30 min runs each day, 2 days- it would be nice to find a group where you could get all that in 1 day. They used to have 3 groups rotating every 20 min at Gingerman with only an hour off for lunch- you'd go home exhausted after 7 or 8 runs, and it was only around $150 for the day! Great track there but pretty bare bones, I would imagine Atlanta costs a lot more to rent....

I've heard of the deals gap thing, you are talking about PA, right? What kind of event are they having? I saw a vid of some guy in an FC running thru some nice wooded roads there, but that's one of the reasons I moved down here-129 from my place to Blairsville is unbelievable... Used to go to MRR up in wisconsin at Road America which was really nice.

Until this afternoon I thought I would need one- a few days ago I decided to investigate my oil leak and it turns out a nub on the aluminum driver's side motor mount was sitting on a pan bolt, and was preventing the mount from sitting flat on the pan, causing the leak. I milled the nub off and put a recess in it for the pan bolt so it would sit flat and bolted everything together and as of today the car still has no drips underneath. I read somewhere else on the forum that the nub was there from the factory so they didn't have to put in that particular pan bolt on the assembly line, probably because the mount blocked it, and that later or replacement mounts don't have it. Its pretty hard to see if the mount is sitting on the nub unless you look at it from in between the pan and the engine cradle crossmember, which is really tough unless you are into yoga or want a neck cramp! No way I would go to the trouble of pulling the pan unless it was going to get replaced with the cast one to end the possibility of any leak ever happening again.

Tim,

I've just signed up. Never been to Road Atlanta. Its good to have a fellow 3rd gen on the track - those pesky RX8's were buzzing all over Roebling when I was there!

Looks like a good group of rotary powered cars will be there. The Best Western seems to be the spot of choice in Brasleton. Go to the bestwestern.com site, plug in the town and I think the address is 303 something or another. It's the only one in the area.

So who is still going?

Anyone else still making it?

The RX-8 guys have a paddack area setup now so we can park with those guys. So far, according to their list, we have 12 people going in rotary powered cars. Although that number didn't include anyone except me in it from this site.
