Ooh... shiney. That's an LS1 I presume?

Btw, watch yourself around here. A lot of people don't take kindly to pistons. Personally I prefer rotary but I can respect a Corvette engine.

actually, i decided to stick with the good old tried and true generation one 350cid small block v8. carburated with a holley hp 600cfm single-pumper and has an edelbrock performer intake. griffin 3 core radiator and some other goodies... 700r4 transmission into a stock rx7 rear end.

actually it handles damn good the v8 only adds 200lbs to the front... its not front heavy at all i have plans to move the battery to the back and get it on a scale and get the 50/50 weight ratio back as soon as i can get around to doing it, but the handling is not affected at all by the v8.

what driveshaft you use how did this all go? please post pics and more info


i got a base SE model with a j-spec tii model moter (sleeper)
and a GXL one with a bad motor but im intresstd in putting my 350 i have in it so please do tell

i used a custom driveshaft took a gm truck shaft and a rx7 one for the tail end and measured, cut, and had them welded together (wouldn't trust my welding on stuff like that lol). the tranny crossmember fit great all i had to do was put spacers on the bolts to make the crossmember sit down lower and welded a plate onto the crossmember for the factory mount to slide into and bolt down. the motor mounts were also made by myself, just be careful when you do it at first where i had it positioned made the driveshaft angle a little too extreme (angled to the right a little) which caused a lot of vibration and messed up my tranny mount. thank god a new tranny mount only set me back $4 and i simply cut the plate off the crossmember moved it over 1/2" and welded it back up. fixed it right up. would have been easier doing this the first time however. wiring is easy as pie. one wire from the pos. battery terminal to the starter, one to the alternator, one to the fuse box main input, and a switched ignition source to the distributor. also have the same source powering my fuel pump and electric choke. its really a very easy conversion, mazda made a huge tranny tunnel even a big tranny like my 700r just slipped right in there no problems. im impressed it even has subframe connectors from the factory! this car was begging for a v8.

as for the rotary guys not liking piston 7s...i have one myself, LT1 FD soon to be a 383 LT1..and within the next few months, i'm starting an LS1 FD project. So you have an allie in me!

i don't hate any cars... just so happens that i like rotary powered cars... i like piston powered cars too... my piston powered car has four pumps, four dumps, eight batteries and ten switches!!!! now that's what i'm talken about!!!
but i ain't hatein... i like your car to... i would like to drive a conversion rx one of these dayz...

might be able to... it all depends on if i get enough time to work on it right now i'm pulling the motor out and replacing it with a 327... should be fun
