I'll be there around 9-9:30. Probably the 9:30 you know how 40 gets backed up in the mornings.

I was under the impression that the caravan was leaving at 9AM... I hope there won't be much waiting after that.

That is awesome!!!!

It was great, I had so much fun out there and it makes it so much better to know that the proceeds are going to a worthwhile charity.
Also good to see everyone out there, hopefully next year we will be able to get even more people out there next year.
I'll get the video I took compiled by the next RRDI meet hopefully and also find someplace to post them online also. (About 80 minutes of video total)

Thanks to everyone that drove up on a very cold day. We had a great turnout and a lot of fun. Thanks to Carl for helping me on the course and evaluating how I took the curves. I had to drive fast 'cause he and stayed on my bumper in his Mom's miata. I tried to watch him in my rearview to see the line he was taking and then duplicate it on the next lap. Learned a lot Carl.

Sorry everyone else missed that experience. The drive up to VIR is always a fun time and its a beautiful drive.

It was a good time, even with the freezing weather, I was amazed at the cars still lined up as I was leaving.

Bert, your line looked good in a lot of places. I could tell you had been around VIR a time or two. And with some fine tuning it would be right on, but your line changes at speed when the car is on the edge. And you'd be amazed what a set of sticky r-compound tires would do, makes your car a totally different creature, in a good way!!! On a scale of 1-10, 1 being very slow and10 being race lap speeds, id put the Holiday laps we did in my session at least a 3.

It was nice meeting you guys up there, I had the luxury of looking at Andy's FD on the way up, that thing is beautiful. Im ready to get mine on the road!!

Hate I missed the Holiday Laps but....

This is what I saw today at the Chin Motorsports HPDE at VIR... read the sign.

Then you'll get to see what they mean by that sign...

Glad to see everyone there on Friday. My car was running only about 60% of its capability because of tuning issues. Lots of back fire and hiccup between 5K-7K RPM but still good enough to keep up with new Mustang GT 500 at straight section after the oak tree turn. Those Mustang looked and sounded very good but that's only thing they are good at.

What was the top speed you guys got in afternoon session? I clocked at 122mph before step on the brake hard to keep distance with Mustangs. Those guys brake way too early and frequently to take some of those turns. Now I know why no one want to follow behind those Mustang :-(

I took a picture of that car before he slammed it into the tires. It was a sharp looking miata. I wonder what he did wrong, because I heard that miata group was going very slow around the course.

Hey Andy it nice meeting you, hope to see you out at the RRDI. So you kept up with the GT500 on the straights, cool. I too like the sound of a Mustang, but I would never own one. I hit around 112 on the straights, I've did 120 last year with no one in front of me.

A purty yellow Corvette lost it on Nascar, ended up on the inside for a while and then took off. Guess his cats were just a little hot or maybe his brakes. Was the last session that morning before lunch so it got flagged. Took them a while to put it out, kind of surprised me.

Hey Burt, What happened around the Oak Tree turn when you where behind me? I looked in my rearview mirror and saw tire smoke, then the next thing I see is your son on my rear bumber. Man that Suby is fast or your son drives like a wildman!

That is called drifting . . . :0)
I was pushing the car as far as I could on that last session and locked the tires up to stay on the track. I came down the hill a little too hot and had to hit the brakes or do a Johny Ligon cross country excursion. I thought all the tire smoke was a nice touch. On the Nascar turn? I left the track for a little known racing line that shortens the distance in that section of the track and heard my coolant buzzer go off so after the drifting experiment I took the pit road exit to check the coolant level and Dan took my place behind you.

That little WRX is turbo charged and he has remapped the CPU for a higher performance level and upgraded the front a rear brakes. But other than that it is stock.

Regardless that was the most fun I have had at VIR and especially enjoyed the last session when we all lined up and lead off together. I don't think we held anyone behind us up. Thanks to Chris for setting that up and we'll have to remember to do it again next year.

I should of been behind you Burt, I missed all the action! You are now the new Drift King (DK) of RRDI!

I wonder what he's putting down at the wheels, upgraded brakes help a lot at the track.

I don't think we held up anyone, in fact we had to slow down because we caught up with the back of the group.

I believe when it was our turn to lead and run that time, we were one of fastest group on that day. I keep checking my rear mirror and can't see any car behind the RX8 following me and that RX8 was the last car in our group. That is also the run I clocked at 122 mph.
We ran 3 times on that day, 1st early run around 11:30am reached 80mph, second run at 1:15pm was aroun 110mph and our group run at 2:00pm around 120mph.

That's because on the third run we had Chris (Trans Am) pushing the hell out of the pace car. That was such an awesom run!!!!
I only saw 108 on my speedometer, and my Garmin registered 105.5 max speed (but the garmin is usually 1-3 miles slower since it's calculating based on satelite readings. I reset the gauges on it right after we got there and It recorded 80 minutes of moving time at an average speed of 51 miles per hour. That was for 4 runs total.
Fricken awesom day!!!!!

Is that Trans Am that Chris was driving modified in anyway? I thought for sure that car would be all over the track. Has he taken any driving courses before or was he a race car driver in his previous life?

Thanks for posting the lap. Now I know what the different sections of track are called. Great time on the track and with friends. Lets do it again next year and do more running together.
